Overbuilt, heavy duty, sharpened prybars

Heh, I love them! I realize that they have mostly traded beauty for brawn, but man, they are fun! Until today, DPx were my favorites. Today I got an Adamas Auto and it is awesome. D2, fires super hard and fast. Anyway, I'm loving these beefy knives (Burch Chubby, Dpx HEAT and HEST, Adamas, Contego (maybe?) ). How about you guys? Not really looking to hear from the haters/purists. What are your favorites when it comes to these HUMMERS?View attachment 503502

I love the beefy Blades! Something about having a folder in your pocket that you would feel comfortable prying open a car door or a house door, and then folding it back up to put in your pocket for next time.

Love them!

I had an old Strider SMF in S35vn 3/4 grind with aluminum non-lock side that was one of the best knives I've ever owned or handled. I foolishly traded it away years ago but would like to get another.:thumbup::thumbup:[/QUOTE]

I just picked on up off the exchange to try out for myself! Can't wait to see how I like it.

British MOD survival knife. 6mm thick high carbon steel, scandi grind and tipless. Designed to cut open steel ammo boxes, oil drums, barbed wire, dig holes, smash throuhg doors and just about everything you'll never do! lol

It'll put every Becker to shame, and I have never ever heard of or seen one broken. Unlike the catalog of Beckers, esees etc.

The secondary market prices are outrageous, but it's hard to beat a Hinderer in Spanto grind for pure brute force. I carry one everyday and everywhere I go. I'd feel well equipped to handle any situation requiring the use of a knife with that blade. It's a hoss!

I had the Tuff, gave it away as the blade groove made it lousy to cut food as it filled up with whatever you are cutting. A really tough knife, just not a great edc. The ZT 300 and 350 series are all tough. The TSF Beast is a beast just like the name says. It feels more like a tool than knife if that makes any sense.

Medfords. I dont have any but the most recent prototype he showed on yotube looked pretty nice.

I'm not usually into overbuilt folders, but the Q4trm4tr Mr. Spicoli has been whispering to me . . .

I don't think too many of you really understand the Sharpened Prybar classification. Medford Knives are straight up the definition of this. Although there is nothing set in stone. I never considered any of my ZT knives to be 'Overbuilt.'

I personally don't consider a Strider SNG to be 'Over-Built' Sharpened Prybay level. Personally my Strider SNG 3v conceal carry 3/4 grind is one of my favorite knives in my collection for ALL tasks. Perhaps due to the geometry it is better at every task than a FFG Strider SNG typically is? I do not have one to compare with but I know I have never had difficulties with any slicing task with my SNG.

With that said, if the baseline is going to be a Strider SNG for minimum thickness/build to be classified then I only own a handful.

-Survive Knives GSO 10, Orange G-10 CPM 3V. This is one huge chunk of steel!
-Strider SNG cc, 3/4 grind CPM 3V. Blade thickness isn't all that prybar level, IMO.
-Spyderco Techno, CTS-XHP. This is one buff little guy.
-Spyderco Tuff, CPM 3V. Sadly I need to send this in for lock issues.
-Grayman Dua, CPM S30V Orange G-10. After an edge reprofile this is a great EDC that doesn't seem to be hindered by the thickness. It is my 'Overbuilt' Sebenza.
-Boker Minos, N690BO flame anodized. Love this knife! This is overbuilt right down to its pocket clip that fits the overall look.
-QuarterMaster A-team, Murdock-Face-B.A.Baracus-Hannibal. Bought when they first came out to have the set. Buyers remorse.

I highly recommend the Boker Minos which is extremely well-made (as good as most customs) in Germany with stonewashed titanium handles and frame lock. The 3.1" long stonewashed blade of N690BO steel is 0.20" thick and a very string tip! Here's a review: The Edge Observer: The Böker Minos designed by Jens Ansø. I have many tough use folders but this one is currently tops.

One of the most underrated folders, IMO! I have not stopped fondling mine for a good 4 months on a regular basis. Finally flame anodized it to really show the contrast of the Labyrinth design.

The Spyderco Vallotton Sub-Hilt folder is very deceptive. It's a good lookin' tank of a knife...

How about this beauty? I just got it today. A Strider/Microtech collaboration automatic. I LOVE it.

My kind of user. I'd love to have one of those.

I keep one in the Jeep at all times, prys chops and saws(somehat) very well under 80. bucks

The most recent folder I bought doesn't quite fit into the OP's category....but almost. The blade is 3/16" thick. It's the Lionsteel TM-1. It is a seriously awesome knife. I'm not sure how much abuse it can take, since it is too much of a classy knife to work overly hard. The blade is Sleipner (slightly tougher D2) and the handle is a single piece of carbon fiber. It is a beefy but super light lockback knife. I confess that it has taken over-- at least for now- my Umnumzaan for EDC. It's a slicer.
