Overnighter in Harriman State park

Looks like a good time! Jay emailed me about this one, but I could get out of work. Next time I might be able to put in some vacation time, though..

When we get the dates for the CT gathering all set I'll let you know. You only live about 45 minutes away from where we are having it.

Very nice trip

Even fire was happy :D

nice meeting you too, tony. riley warned me about you but none of it was true :D and thanks for bringing the arete too. i'll post my pics later tonight.

Awesome pics man, looks like a blast. Except for the whisky, I can't hang with that stuff

these guys can drink! it was empty in about 2 hours.

Mon and Tue they were looking for plants --and found 7,000 marijuana plants !! $ 20million worth and the 15 illegals that grew it.The closest place was only2 miles from me !

crazy! this is why i carry a machete - i already look like an illegal. i just need to learn how to speak spanish and pretend i'm their supervisor doing an un-announced quality control check so as to avoid being shot when i stumble onto their camp

Looks like you guys had a great time!

Where did you get your tarps?

mine is a 6'x8', $5 cheapie i bought online.

Great pics! Looks like a pretty area? Is that a shelter in the background?

there are quite a few of those built solid shelters in harriman state park. we knew it was going to be in the 20s at night so we opted against the shelter since the risk of spooning was too great in close proximity to one another like that

Be still my beating heart! Please tell me that is Spam I see on the grill!

heck yeah! spam was on the fire for lunch, snack, dinner and breakfast. i think when we left we still had two unopened cans still :D

Yeah, and I don't know how you guys eat that crap:barf:

red gold aka hot sauce makes everything better! this is the hot sauce i brought in (dave's ghost pepper naga jolokia). i have a stock pile of that stuff right next to my stack of ammo and spam :D

I have slurred speech just looking at the Makers Mark.

haha!

!

I forgot to tell you. The new guy is suppose to give me a gift at the time of the camp out. I will make it easy for you and just request that small bottle of hotsauce. It was good stuff, and almost made that spam stuff edible..

Good heads up, Tony. If I show up for the CT get together, I'll be sure to pick you up something. You have one of these already? I hear you guys have interesting camping trips :D

Yea, buddy! Since moving down here (White Plains), I finally realized just how close CT is. I "grew up" (yea, ok...) in northern Westchester, so we were more like an hr from Danbury where I was there. I was drinking a beer in Norwalk within 35 mins of leaving my apartment a few months ago.

I'll definitely have to keep a closer eye on the CT thread.

I played darts for a few bars in White Plains in the Westchester Dart league. I grew up in the Bronx and Yonkers, but moved up here about 5 years ago.
I still drove down on Thursdays to play after I moved.

I am very familiar with White Plains

Only places with dart boards (that I can remember) in town nowadays are Gryphons and... umm, maybe that's all :D

I usually end up at Lazy Boy Saloon. I love me some beer and the food is great. If you ever find yourself on Mamaroneck Ave, hit me up. I'm always down for a few cold ones

YOu guys suck....
Looks like we have a new member to WWAA (woods walking alcohol abusers) ...very cool.

Looks like a great trip and some nice deadfall traps there. I like the bourbon, brink it on! Maker's mark is one of my favorites!

Great pics! Love Harriman. That looks like West Mtn. Shelter in the background?
Hit me up next time if you'd like, I'm only an hour away.

dutch doctor shelter. i'll give you a head's up next time we're up there.

here are the pics from my cell...tonym taking down a standing dead tree with my gb scandinavian axe.

it fell below freezing at night so we strategically pointed our shelters towards the rising sun and at least 15 ft away from each other...pre-emptive strike against any kind of spooning :p

one of riley's friends just slept on a pile of leaves and his sleeping bag. he thru-hiked the appalachian trail so i bet he was shaking his head at the sight of my pack size :D

026_006.jpg

we went down to the stream nearby to check out any edibles. the water was still ice cold. i dipped my hand in there for 3 secs a few times to turn over rocks to look for some crawfish and after 2-3 times it was too painful and i had to stop and warm it up.

You guys SUCK! I want to get out so bad I can taste the dirt, but I just don't have the time anymore. And the spring seems like it is the worst time for me for time, and the time I most want to get out, because I know the hellish southern Maryland summer is just around the corner. . ARGH!

Ok I finally managed t install the software on my new camera here;s some more pics.
Here's my home for the night (my trusty Poncho)
Newpics025.jpg

for a mattress I used a sealed section of tarp stuffed with phragmities reeds and debris (worked like a charm)
Newpics032.jpg

even after a night of sleeping on it it still had about 3 inches of loft.
Newpics054.jpg

This is the lake which was not to far from camp
Newpics064.jpg

I believe it was partially fed by this small stream
Newpics036.jpg

which turned up a few of these
Newpics037.jpg

which became these
