Overpriced 440C blades?

Amen!

Have I ever said that value is in the eye of the beholder???
Thanks! I turns out that science backs me up!

I do have you on ignore Marcinek, but I constantly have to click *show ignored content* because I know your snide nature. If you're going to act like a complete jerk in chat, I don't want it appearing as if that kind of behavior goes unchallenged all the time.

And as far as overpriced Böker 440C is concerned, I recommend you check out their new models of Urban Trapper.

One Böker rep said MSRP was was 140+ dollars for a 440C model, I began to get the distinct impression this man was smoking crack.

They are priced to sell. So they are not overpriced.

It sure would be nice if you limited yourself to talking about knives rather than name calling.

(and while this model isn't really the one I want, it is in the price range I find largely unjustifiable)

How about you don't worry about the price of the knife you don't want, and ignore the people you put on ignore?

That's rather the way I go about things.

Sell? Yes...sell as much as they could? Clearly Not

And if you don't like nasty responses, maybe you should think more about the way you initiate converse w/ people.

Yes, even people you don't like. You catch more flies w/ honey than vinegar and I doubt I'm the only person here to have you and other select members of your sewing circle on ignore.

You seem to be the one making personal remarks and thereby breaking the rules of this forum, in which you are a guest. I suggest you wind your neck back in.

They could sell even more at $0.50! I don't see the relevance. Boker is in the knife selling business. They price their knives to sell and make money. They have been in business since 1869.

If the Boker you want is to much for you to buy...then I don't know what else to tell you. Buy the non collabo, buy the Old Hickory.

We all want things that are beyond our price range. We deal with it.

Sometimes steel is a huge part of the knife's price...the steel alone for one large knife I wanted to make was going to be $100 US.

Other times it is not.
One knife I made, the steel was free, but I would have had to sell it for $700 to cover the cost of other materials, and give myself even minimum wage profits due to time spent working on it.

'440C was never rare. It was just new.

And you are not "expected" to buy your new dagger. If you dont want to spend that money, don't. It's not like a dagger is groceries.

Boker has priced their knives at a point where they will sell. Hence, they are not overpriced.'

Nope, nothing passive / aggressive about that.....nothing at all.

You're doing a bang up job ignoring him.

True, but I doubt this is the case here. Böker has been making whole blade series out of 440C for decades now...it just doesn't wash here imo.

Seems like price gouging to me.

And then there is the premium for having a "stabman" knife. Seriously the same thing is going on here...you have Applegate, Farirbairn, and Harsey's name associated with this knife. Those command a premium.

Its how things work. "I want a $150 Scagel...who knows what steel he used! Bet it wasn't CPM something!"

That argument doesn't hold water.

You are free to believe that, but, honestly, that is not how knife pricing works.

You want an A-F dagger it costs a certain amount. No conspiracy. No price gouging. Just free market price driven by demand from people like you who want one.

So don't buy it. You aren't the sole audience for this knife.
I can think of plenty of knives that for me are overpriced for what you get. I would never buy a new Emerson because every one I have handled had horrible fit and finish for what they charge.... But plenty of other people do buy them. Because the price is only 1 aspect of the total package. Another person might really like the wave feature and not care so much about fit and finish so for them the price is worth it.

A better example is if you've ever been to Orlando you probably noticed all of the mini amusement parks near Disney. They all have games, rides, and are essentially the same thing on the surface, and while Disney world is more expensive than some of these other parks it is still worth the money for me because my daughter will have a more memorable experience.

So you can't get a marketing-department-hyped super steel knife with a leather sheath for $157.

Hey I want one of those too for $157 and I want it to poop rainbows that smell like Cinnabons.

In the real world, though, $157 for a 440C knife and a kydex sheath is actually more than reasonable. Maybe you should spend some time checking out the nice dealers who support the site and get some idea of current knife pricing.

Well, it’s not a 6” blade, but to be fair literally exactly what you just said is available in the $156 Lionsteel M4: M390 steel, well-made leather sheath. It doesn’t poop rainbows though

Letting W&C surreptitiously leak over into the general discussion form for the purposes of baiting people are we?

I thought there was some sort of rules against baiting people on here.

Yeah, you're all real tough guys over in W&C when someone is forced to wear a muzzle.

What? Pretty sure W&C is the one place on the forum you aren't "forced to wear a muzzle".
You can always just put me on ignore if my comment somehow offended you.
