Overuse of the Like button.

OP’s going to need to establish some rules for when a post is like-worthy. A rubric is in order: before we hit the like button we’ll fill it out and send it to OP for approval.

Also the “ha ha” variant… did you experience a chortle? A chuckle? A snicker? A belly laugh? Are you laughing with them, or at them? Must one laugh out loud for it to count?

These limited and predefined buttons are insufficient to express the breadth of the human experience in 5 seconds or less. Is someone going to take this to the tech thread, or is OP going to have to do it?
I think sharply exhaling through one's nose counts for the "ha ha".

Maybe I’m just getting old and pedantic, but ........
Why do members go through a thread and hit the Like button on every post .
In my opinion it devalues the whole idea of the “Like” button .
Maybe there should be an “Appreciation and Thanks for Contributing “ button because that is what the “Like” seems to have turned into .
But, like, what if I like to 'like' things? I like knives a lot and a lot of people I like post a bunch of knives that I like, so if I like them and I like the knives I should 'like' that, right?

There's just not enough nuance in the reaction options.
I want to express an "eyeroll". The "haha" emoji doesn't properly convey when I'm laughing at someone, and not with them. I'm not "sad" or "mad"; I guess the "wow" is the closest thing.

However overused, it's nice being able to credit good posts without having to reply and just clutter up the thread. It should make for more efficient threads. No more "nice knife!" type replies.

And it stays out of the way, so what does it really matter if it's overused?

But, like, what if I like to 'like' things?
Here's a great example of how the like button can also be a commentary on the issuer of the like than the subject at hand.
We should have a "self-aware" like button. A meta like button, if you will.
something that says, "I'm liking this, but don't read too much into it- It's just how I choose to participate."

Then again, the last non-human thing that became self aware proved a real issue for John Connor.

I'm so relieved this thread was started. I've been keeping this secret obsession bottled up for what seems like forever.
I've got a problem, I use the Like button all the time. ( They say the first step to recovery is admitting the problem ). So, if anyone knows of a support group to help overcome this hellish problem, please send the info ASAP.
All this time, I thought the Like button had more than one meaning. I need to go and reflect now.

I'll raise you a "like in perpetuity" button, where every post ever gets assigned an immediate like.
