Oz Machine Company Megathread

Apparently, and perhaps literally, everyone on this Forum has one…..except me. Nor is one in my future (financially). But they sure are nice to look at. You go guys!

I haven't seen a really, really plane jane version, but the most basic model seems to be Elmax, MagnaCut, M390, or Vanax (haven't seen this change the price, seems to just be done in runs or based on availability of steel maybe), with varying handle milling patterns and anodizing for $750. The lottery I won was Elmax with plain ti and speed holes, which is about as basic as they seem to get.

The XL is a bit more. Timascus small parts seems to be the only upcharge. You also get dinged $25 for shipping, so it ends up being $775 if you get drawn in the lotto and it was a pretty basic model. They seem to have about 100 knives usually split between XL and standard Rosie in two to four different configurations, open for lotto entries on Friday or Saturday, and draw on Sunday. You have to pay shortly after you get the invoice, and the invoices go out over about an hour on Sunday night. You can enter the lotto separately for any of the models that interest you, but only one lotto entry per knife variation.

EDIT: The skeletonized one seems to be weirdly super popular and I think is also more expensive, understandably due to the loads of extra machine time.

When I heard "lotto," I thought they were giving away 1 for free. 😲

Wishful thinking, LOL!🤷

So, it's just for the privilege of buying 1. Makes sense. CPK should do that too!

Everyone says it's a great knife but the design never appealed to me & the price always put me off (feel the same way about Koenig) but I hope you enjoy the one you buy.

Congrats!! 🎉

I like mine, but it really is just Spyderco perfected. Maybe someone will argue, but it does go all-in on the reverse flick for opening. If you don’t like that, you won’t like the Roosevelt.

Edit: new lotto should be up any time. I’m hoping for an XL.

The action is really nice. Any knife that is possible for me to thumb flick must have a really good action.

This is an interesting thought, and I had not considered it from that perspective. Thanks for sharing!

For the record, I do not have a Rosie. Long time ogler, have not pulled the trigger…..

I would say that it is a little misleading to claim Spyderco perfected, the action on the Rosie and the milling is top notch, it thumb flicks, finger flicks, slow rolls all with incredible smoothness. It pockets nice and flat, comes with an excellent factory clip, aggressive yet attractive blade shape. Even the placement of the company logo and the blade steel is carefully thought out. The full flat grind makes for a great slicer especially since the blade is fairly tall. I love my Spyderco blades, especially the higher end ones, but they are a different animal.

That’s a great perspective (positively) for OZ……

Feeling more and more like I am gonna have to try one!

Appreciate the insight!

I don't have one either.

Maybe, we should start an 'Oz Machine Company Jealousy Megathread'.

Ah, 'Jealousy' would probably be declared 'off topic' and the thread would be closed...

and I thought Chris Reeves knives were spendy. At least with CRK, you don't have to first try and win a lottery before shelling out the bucks. Looks like another knife maker whose work is quickly flipped for a huge profit by the fans.

I think the lottery is better than the drops. At least I can enter beforehand. I had uniquely crappy experience with a drop last year that had me contemplating contacting the FBI. The maker made good, eventually.

I’ve recently thought that the lottery is actually a pretty brilliant business move. They control the supply and they know every single time they post a new lottery exactly how many people want to buy the 50 or so knives available and they might get 3-5,000 entries. I have no clue how many enter each time on average. They also get all our email addresses for future marketing purposes/drops/news as well. They can make production adjustments as needed with monthly updates almost in real time. They couldn’t do this without incredible demand, which they still have bc it’s an incredible knife that is distinctly its own.

When I think about it, the Protean by Prince Customs is that, more than the Rosie.
