PA stabbing

Terrible. Just awful. :( I would be gutted if that were one of my kids.

If it's not a knife it's a sharp pencil, a pointy compass, or any other tool. It will be interesting to see how the media spins this one.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

Too early to tell about any longterm ramifications. One concern is if the attacker used a large folder, we might see the hysterical hoplophobes in this country go after some sort of knife control agenda. I think this is a long shot, but since the attempts at Federal level gun control crashed and burned, a "knife control" bill might be seen as a consolation prize. For the children of course. Unlikely, but possible. Perhaps more plausible might be more negative scrutiny against those of us who EDC knives. All of this is really speculation, as there is a signficant lack of details at this point.

Being PA, the media will probably claim that the assailant had an AR-15 in his back pocket, and will push for further gun legislation.

Terrible situation. The school can regulate weapons/knives/guns all they want. It obviously doesn't prevent anything. Recently there have been multiple gun/stabbing attacks world wide - Fort Hood again, people being stabbed in China etc...
Better parenting and less state/school oversight is the only thing that will solve this issue. Unfortunately the government will probably use this situation so they don't "waste a crisis". No winners in this story...

Another thing, how does one person stab twenty people? I know I wasn't there but come on. Does no one fight back anymore? There had to be all kinds of objects, chairs, desks, books nearby. If someone wants to stab you they need to be close enough to touch you. I don't get how that happens. 20 vs. 1 ?

Hope it wasn't one of those black assault knives. The kind with ”teeth” on them.

This. There wasn't one person who said "EFF THAT." and grabbed a chair and broke it over this guy's head? Not one?

I hope they all end up ok, no deaths reported in the article so far.

My opinion on the matter, school counselors are often overworked and lack training along with lacking any regular contact with students. When I was in high school (graduated 2007) my school counselor existed for schedule changes, college information, and sports team information. Not to talk about my problems. Schools don't even have nurses anymore. I don't see the number of violent outbursts changing until societal views about mental health and well being change.

As far as this teen using a knife instead of a gun and if that will change any laws, I doubt it. Schools might crack down on knifes but I think that's about it. If that kid had not had a knife than I pen would do and I think people are starting to see that the knife/gun can only exacerbate the problem, not create it.

More than likely he got a few people and the rest of the ”injuries” were people bumping into each other on their way out of the school

You know the media has to sensationalize this as much as possible

as a parent it has me fearful of the future. I dont know if its our very easy access media system where we are seeing and hearing more than ever before or if things keep getting worse. All I know Is I am hearing of crap like this happening more than I ever have before. I honestly dont understand today's youth feeling that hurting others is acceptable. It honestly has me thinking of home schooling my daughter. I hate to lock the princess in the castle guarded by a dragon but what do you do when the prince is trying to kill her?

I know. I can't believe some people these days. Again I know I wasn't there, and it's easy to say what you "would've done", but even using a chair to distance yourself between an attacker would buy a lot of time for others. You don't have to kill the guy. You just have to disable him long enough to get to safety.

Just as "Good Samaritans" have to be careful who and how they help for fear of lawsuits, it seems like there has been a number of recent accounts of kids being suspended or expelled because they tried to help or intervene in emergencies. They are being programmed not to get involved. On top of that, we have a combination of anti-bullying laws taking the place of discipline and a culture of desensitized indifference in which nobody wants to get involved.

During a passing period? By the time someone figures out they have been stabbed he will have already gotten another 3+ people. 3-5 minutes to use the bathroom, change out your books in your locker, and get across the school to be in your seat before the bell rings or you are late and your parents may be getting an automated phone call. All this in a very crowded hallway. Impossible to avoid bumping into people.

At least that was my high school experience so it seems fairly conceivable to me that attacking 20 people is not out of the question.

A witness tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the male suspect, was tackled by assistant principal Sam King.

So yeah, someone did something.

It's really terrible this happened. I'm like 30 minutes away from there, I know people who went there. Sad day.

I'm always surprised by mass stabbings in a contained space. I can't believe no one stops them. Kind of concerning.

I really hope this doesn't mean stricter knife laws for PA. It wouldn't help anything, I hope enough people realize that.

All true points. Damn shame too.

Wow, just wow. Awful news again. Thoughts and prayers for all the victims and families of this atrocity.

The suspect is a 10th grader, 15 years old. So sad that someone that age would hurt so many.
