I bet the PR folks and Executives at all the Knife Manufacturers are hoping and praying that the knives used by this kid were not theirs...

I posted right before I read your last post...

You are correct. I was just responding to a comment by an opposing view point. I'm done with the religious talk.

Thank you. I agree that there is a serious lack of morals, and that that is one of the main reasons for these things. I also don't disagree that the loss of morals coincides with the loss of religion. But religious arguments never play out respectfully and would only detract from this thread. Thanks for realizing that, it shows a lot.

I'm a liberal democrat, but also a 2nd amendment supporter and knife enthusiast, and I fear the over-reaction from our lawmakers because of this terrible event.

Well, you enable them with your support, so any "overreaction" is in part on you.

Local news reportes one victim has had one surgery and its going in for anther.

Another victim tweeted a picture off himself in children's hospital with a forearm bandage

In the sense that we all have a stake in a representative democracy and to some degree are accountable for the people we elect, I guess you're right, but that's a terrifically simplistic take on things. Unless you hew 100% to a particular party's (or particular elected official's) platform and views, you take the good with the bad and you prioritize which issues are most important to you. I'm a supporter of Second Amendment rights and a knife enthusiast who, for a raft of reasons unrelated to those beliefs, tends to vote democrat, though certainly not always. Pin this on me if you must, but people's voting habits are usually more complex than single-issue politics.

Once again:

Murrysville police chief Thomas Seefeld confirmed a 16-year-old male student is in custody. He said an assistant principal wrestled the suspect to the ground after he ran through multiple classrooms and hallways brandishing two knives.

So there you have it, someone did do something.
A person responsible for the safety of the students risked his own safety to safeguard theirs.

In all the "why didn't someone do something?" talk, it appears that people don't notice that someone did.

I'm with you, but what you should have written was: "A person responsbile for the safety of the students risked his own LIFE to safeguard theirs." :) Many people with a lot of experience and training in this general area would rather face a gun than a knife. Unlike guns, knives remain dangerous without any action by the assailant. The assistant principal is a genuine hero.

Keep God and politics out of this. They have no place when senseless things like this happens. What does have a place is trying to determine the events that led up to it. Reports were that he was a routine victim of bullying, throw matches at a powder keg and then get surprised when it blows. Teach your children humility people, life isn't about catching a ball or what kind of car you drive.

Scary stuff. I'm from that area and my little cousin is a junior at FRHS. Luckily he was late this morning and wasn't even in the building when it happened.

You're right, I shouldn't have risen to the bait. My bad.

I'd like to echo the sentiments that the assistant principal acted truly heroically. That's some damn fine common ground we all share.

The liberalization of this country has everything to do with it. Too much of a slacker to keep up with the rest of the class? We'll lower everyone to your standard. Don't want to pay attention? It's your parents fault and you must have mental health problems. Can't follow rules? Once again it's everyone else's fault and mental illness. Parents are afraid to give their children the discipline required for fear of arrest for " Child Abuse". There are thousands of these allegations a day from in undisciplined youth. Go and do something unforgivable and you're a media sensation and again it will be blamed on your troubled childhood and mental sickness. There is NO accountability in today's society.

Just as you can assume it's the liberalization of this country, I can assume it's the ever increasing violent nature that is glorified in film and mass media. Am I right? No. Are you right, no.

Religion and politics in a thread that should have been in Current Events to begin with. Those of you that feel entitled to spout religious/political comments outside the Political Arena will get no mercy next time.
