Padam Suga Knife for 5/29

First! Just opened it. No time for photos yet.

It's wicked. The top swage is a knife edge. The handle is substantial, and can be used for a couple grip positions.
This one is 11-1/2" OAL, with a 6-1/2" blade, and weighs 12 oz.
Blade thickness (max.) is more than 5/16". (I'd call it 11/32").
Balance point is about at the back of the cho.

Yep. I got mine in the mail about 2 hours ago. I wasn't expecting it so quickly, but I should have known better;)

Mine is 11.5" with a 6 3/4" blade and about the same weight. The handle is certainly chunky. Not overly large, just quite round and very comfy. I'm 100% swamped at work today, but I'll play around with it a little bit and do a write up tomorrow when it's not so busy.

The swedge on mine has the potential to be razor sharp. It's sharp enough now that if you aren't careful, you'll lay yourself open a little bit. With a little bit of work, it'll cut to the bone.

The tip is fantastic. It's thin enough to be acute but substantial enough not to break off short of prying with it. I get the feeling that this is not so much a utility knife but a very effective fighter. The upswept tip falls right in line with your knuckles wrapping around the grip. The weight of the knife disappears and you're left with a natural extension of your arm. Basically, where ever you point your wrist, the tip is going to line up. I'm not a martial artist, but I think that some skilled with a blade could easily "thread the needle" as to where you want that tip to go exactly.

It's a substantially solid knife but very lively. It feels just as dangerous in a reverse grip as it does in a forward grip. I am really digging the "bird's head" butt. It's not a field hammer, but it would ruin someone's day with a smart thump. Actually, I think it could be used as a pressure point pain compliance tool as well. I gave my wrist and underside of my jaw a little poke, and it's certainly commands your attention.

Long story short, Padam shows some incredible talent. The way this blade locks into your hand, distributes weight, and lines up perfectly shows that he was classically trained by a true master. I hope to have a few pictures and detailed thoughts tomorrow. For right now: Fit, Finish, and Design are 10/10. Quite possibly one the top three fighting knives I seen come out of HI...ever. I think the grip could be scaled down a bit to be narrower and the finger grooves couple probably be a little shallower, but these are just personal preferences and have nothing to do with the quality and design of the knife.

A huge thank you to Yangdu for letting me handle one of these lovely beasts and a huge tip of the hat to Padam for his masterful work. He is incredibly talented and will have a long, long career with the level of quality and care he obviously puts into his blades.

Wow, thanks for the quick review Steely, can't wait for the comprehensive version...:). everyone has theirs, I am hoping like crazy that there's a nice triangle box on my front porch when I get back.

Got mine today, too. Nothing I could say about it that Jake didn't already say. It's a great knife.

Waaaaaahhh...NO triangle box today!!!! Now I need to wait until Monday, this disappointment really puts a dent in my weekend...:(

Uh oh, no triangle box on Monday, I know Auntie always sends it out overly quick, I am hoping to God, that the USPS didn't lose it, that would really wreck my week!

Alright! Auntie gave me a tracking number, and it just arrived at the post office, I should have it in my hands today, or tomorrow (hope not!)

I shall keep my fingers crossed for you. Today is better than tomorrow but tomorrow is better than the day after.

It's worth the wait.

That is so true Bawanna, I should just be thankful for when it arrives, always sooner than later...

May be time to go fishin again Cul and when you get back it will be here. Kind of a dejavu with two good endings:D

I should...maybe 2nd time will be the charm. Use a bird knife to prepare a fish? lol

Come on! There has to be something! Make up something. Think up some new words.
