Great pics and beautiful family. That fish is a hawg!! Looks like you had a great time.
About the handle, maybe the ricasso/finger groove could have been moved up closer a bit. I sill like it though.

I would either bring the finger groove forward, or the ricasso back. (same difference, just depends how long you want the handle to be.) I know it goes against the grain somewhat, but I really hate large ricasso's on small/medium knives. Why not make the whole blade sharp?

The rest of the handle might be more comfy with a more concave instead of straight profile. Kinda late for that particular piece, but food for thought.

The rubber-dip stuff might help, but I've found it's not very durable... tends to peel back easily.

A small chamfer around the handle would probably be a good idea. Square edges get uncomfortable quickly.

I still think it's basically a good design.

Thanks for the comments guys.
You nailed it, the finger groove/ricasso area is what I didnt like, I think I will lengthen the finger groove a bit toward the ricasso on the next one.

Thanks, I hadnt thought about sharpening the whole blade. The handle is chamfered some it just doesnt show well in the pic.

Had a blast. The first 3 days of the week my daughter was in cheerleading camp so the wife and I had a second honeymoon.
Then I got to fish for the next 4 days. :)

I admit, I'm a picky guy (annoying jerk) and the whole ricasso thing is just something that gets under my skin. Think about peeling an apple or tater... don'tcha want the edge right under your thumb? Seems like I'm the only guy around here who complains about that, so maybe it's just me. :foot: :o

Glad you had a nice vacation, in any case! :) Best wishes to you and your family.
