Para military first impressions

It was my second folder ever and has always come back to be my favorite, and I've had lots including ZT's, bench add, Keyshaws and other spyderco. You just can't beat its weight, strength and utility. Enjoy it

better knive for its price ! for me it's keep a better edge vs the benchmade a hold . possibily in heat threat process ?

I think so, because the edge retention is so poor only own para2 that it don't fit with the reputation and comments I have seen on it
I may have not been lucky with my particular specimen.... However very good knife design and I won't blade the model or the brand... I am just somehow frustrated in my enjoyment for it :(

I dunno.... my S30v PM2 holds an edge just fine. Don't see any less edge holding from my ZT350ts or 0301....

While I am waiting, I would love to hear from some people about their first time handling a para military 2. What were your initial reactions?

"So this is a lot more elegant looking IRL than I thought."

"Wow, this fits my hand like a glove."

"Hey, this lock is really easy to work."

"I don't know why I worried about the fine tip, it makes things so much easier."

So on and so forth. It's my favorite folder by a long shot. I completely understand why some people aren't crazy about it, but for me, it's perfect. Even cost considered I can't think of too many folders I'd take over it... if I had to choose 1 folder for the rest of my life, I'd be content with the plain Jane S30V Para 2.

Good to know, thanks you for the feedback
Mine is a completely different story and the contrast with my ZT and BM is obvious

I waited with anticipation for my first (only) PM2. Aside from the Spidey hole, I liked the look of the knife, so I was eager to give it a try. On arrival, I unboxed it, examined it, opened it, and...meh.... Something wasn't right. The ergonomics were great - the basic shape seemed like a perfect fit for my hand...but it just didn't feel right to me. I played around a little...adjusting my hand position, trying different grips, opening/closing it, etc...on my mental checkoff sheet, everything was great - I should love it. But I don't. I think it's something about the size and the scales, even though there are smaller, thinner, flatter knives that I consider favorites; so I've been considering buying another one, along with a set of replacement scales. The only thing holding me back is the thought that I'll spend another $200, only to find that I still don't like it; and end up with another PM2 that sits on the shelf of my desk. (I'm sure I'll make the jump eventually; because, as mentioned, I feel like I should love this knife. Forcing it into my pocket for a few months might make the difference...I just haven't been able to do that because there are too many knives that I like having there.)

How are you sharpening it?

I sharpen it on my spyderco sharp maker, the same way I sharpen my other knives
The PM2 is the only one I have problems with

No problems sharpening even the zt0350 recurred blade, neither with BM943, BM940, ZT0801, ZT0350.... S30v, Elmax, m390, s35V ... All are fine
What really surprised me is that I have s30v in the 3 brands and only the spydie makes me some troubles

But I assume it shall be an issue in production.
I have got the knife after a shortage... My experience in the industry is that their are always more potential risks/issues on the first productions in such case.

I take it at it is, maybe if there is an all black sprint run I will take another one with a different steel.

By the way did anyone get some similar experience with spyderco?

My para 2 just came into today. havent had it long enough to really tell much but initial impressions are positive.

Should there be a Stickied thread here just titled "PM2 Love & Praise"?

It would be on endless repeat, and for good reason. :)

I was very underwhelmed at first although the ergos were spot on and the slicing ability was great... But after a couple months it really grew on me. A near perfect design very usefull and have gotten a lot of work done that i cant with my cheaper knives

I agree with Therom that the blade length to handle length ratio is part of the excellent ergonomics of the knife. The long light handle is very comfortable in my hand and the 3.4 inch blade length is fine for most jobs. My first impression was pretty good. But as I used and carried the knife, I liked it more and more. Now it would be the last knife in my collection that I d get rid of.

Fourth day with the para and man is it a light, useful, and fun knife. It is slowly becoming my go to edc knife for most occasions.

I've bought two Paramilitaries now.

I have three Militaries too. Love them

You won't buy a PM2 because of the multi position clip?

I liked the compression lock on the PM2 as soon as I handled it but it was a while before the knife as a whole grew on me. At the time I really preferred Spydies without the large thumb ramp but in time the comp lock convinced me to carry the PM2 more. The thumb ramp eventually grew on me (still think it could be a little shorter) and now the PM2 in my favorite knife. The only knife that could kick it from my #1 position will be the smaller version that Sal has hinted at being in R&D now.

Nope. I've been buying vintage Spydies lately. I do hate the holes from multiposition clips. Tip up grinds my gears sumpin fierce

I didn't expect to like the smaller grip. Using the choil as part of the grip is new to me. I have a couple knives that way now. Native 5, Para. It's not that strange now. I didn't think I would put the Para in my big knife rotation at first. It fits now though.

Your really missing out on some excellent knives over a few tiny barely noticable holes.

I love my PM2.

I used to have a Military which I really liked but then sold after a couple years of EDC and got a 940. Carried the 940 for about 5 years and got the PM2 this December. I love the compression lock and how you can open/close it with one hand just like a benchmade axis lock. Size is perfect and imo better suited for EDC than the Military. Best high end production folder on the market.
