whata yall think? I have my hand on the mouse button to grab one or the other, green G10 D2 or camo s30v. damn tough decision. both good steel. D2's supposed to be some tough stuff, although I know personally s30v is awesome. I probly cant go wrong. and I like the green.......and the camo.

I went with the FG D2...
Not sure how someone can make the decision for you? I just don't dig the black blades, choice was easy for me. YMMV.

Popular question lately. If you do a little digging in this sub-forum you'll find a bunch of healthy threads on the debate. I just grabbed the D2 and I couldn't be happier... well, maybe if there was a camo D2. My reasons for the D2 were 1) it's a sprint run 2) I've never tried D2 steel 3) I have too much s30v and I'm not particularly enamored of it 4) black is boring, and intimidating to non-knife people, just ask 'em, I did (and PLEASE don't refer to them as "sheeple", b/c it just makes you sound like an antisocial, doomsday freak who'd rather hang with dudes and swing blades than get with chicks and relate to normal folk;))

Uh, so, yeah, GO D2!

Well judging by your location, North Texas, if it is the part of North Texas/South Oklahoma I visited then you shouldn't have to worry about your D2 para rusting.

I picked up the D2 first and I really like it. Liked it so much I procrastinated about getting a regular version. :D

The D2 takes a really keen edge at 30 degrees and holds it nicely. I have not had any problems staining or rusting, but then again, it's Michigan, and I don't carry IWB normally.

Unless you live somewhere where your knives rust easily, I'd get the CPM D2 model. While I like S30V, I personally found the D2 Para to "seem" to hold its edge longer. However, if I were living or using it in an environment where rust was a concern, I wouldn't hesitate using a S30V version.

Good luck.

For me CPM D2 gets sharper and holds it's edge better than S30V. I have Millies in both steels and gave thecS30V to my Dad to carry and test out whily I carry the CPM D2 a lot.
That led me to having to buy myself a CPM D2 Para which is coming to me this week.

Every D2 pocket knife I've carried has developed corrosion spots, regardless of consistent care. What's truly odd is that this does not happen with 1095 blades or other high carbon blades. I don't know why this happens only with D2 only but for me, it gives an easy answer to your question:

S30V, every time.

I've got the D2, my brother just picked up the digicamo black blade and I was a little jealous, nothing to do with edge holding just the look of it.

I've been very happy with the D2 Para. No problems with it, and i make sure i wipe off the blade when I'm done with it and at the end of the day.

Some people say that CPM D2 holds a better edge. However, I don't have enough experience with D2 to make a call on that.
If you're going to use the knife, then it's better to go with what looks best to you. Either steel will still serve your purposes well.
If you're collecting, then the FG D2 version would probably be better to get right now.
To me, the biggest draw of the D2 version is that it's a sprint run and it's no longer in production. I seem to recall that Crucible decided not to go ahead with full production of the CPM D2, so it was a limited chance to try it.

If I had a dollar for everytime this question was asked....

anyway, I would have like 4 dollars or something. Look, here's the thing; D2 is in my opinion, the superior steel. However, it does tend to rust if not cared for. The D2 para is a sprint run and if you don't mind throwing mineral on it once in a while, get that one.

I'm looking forward to the Para D2 I just ordered today. It was $30 cheaper than the S30V and I am thrilled about the color and steel. Something different for me.

I vote for S30V.

D2 is known to rust and wiping it down with mineral oil or whatever doesn't 100% protect it from rusting. Plus D2 is brittle and can chip.

If you havn't pushed the button IMO the D2 is the way to go. I have it for about 8-9 months with no problems at all. With all the chemicals in the air (in NJ), if there was a problem with the steel, it would have shown up by now. No special care given to this knife since new. EDC it for weeks at a time. Edge holds up very well. One of the best purchases I have made in knives.

What are you basing this opinion on?

exactly what I was going to ask. you beat me to it.

For those of you who are wondering, CPM D2 IS the superior steel. The only thing s30v has over it is corrosion resistance. CPM D2 has better edge retention and takes a very nice edge. Coating it in Mineral Oil DOES prevent the rust, however, as with EVERY steel with the exception of H1, it can still develop spots. There is only 1 steel in the knife industry that claims to be nearly rust proof, and that is H1. Here's a "Stainless" steel for you
