i just checked my watch list on _bay and noticed that a carbon fiber para2 sold for get this... over 821.00 DOLLARS! that's freakin crazy, you know what kind of custom you can get for that kind of scratch?

I hope Spyderco makes the fluted Para2CF's soon. There is obviously demand for CF Paras.

an el patrone with s90v sold the other day at gpknives for 575.00 and that was brand new!

Yeh, how much better can it be over the 20CP para...

Maybe the two guys dueling for that Para didn't like light gray? :D

Sort of OT, I'd love to see a comparative test between the M390 and 204P and the S90V and 20CP Para2 sprints. Doubt that'll happen, though. :)

Didn't Ankerson do a 20CP vs. S90V shootout? IIRC the S90V was slightly better. I guess the CF scales plus the slightly better performance is what makes it worth $800 to the guy that won the auction. I'd get a custom for the price, but that's just me. :D

I'm pretty sure they were in the same category (?). Personally, the gray doesn't send me, but they gray also doesn't contribute anything to how the knife CUTS :) so at the end of the day it's just cosmetics. I think some auctions like that are purely testosterone and ego?

Yeh, same category on the testing thread. I think I remember a 20CP vs. S90V one with 400 grit moldmaster edges on both. I wouldn't be able to tell the difference for sure, but it would be fun to try. :)

I think you have it right. When I first started buying knives, I wound up paying $30 for a $20 knife at that site. I vowed right then I would never enter an auction again. Up to this day, I never look at auctions, just the "buy it now" listings.

Amen! I feel the same way about Ebay. I only use BIN. Long ago someone asked me to bid on an item they had listed, so they could try to jack up the price on the current legitimate bidder. I refused and never entered an auction again. Too easy for a seller to instigate a "bidding war" through a proxy or dummy account imo... Was definitely reminded of this possibility when I heard about the $800+ tick.

I paid too much for mine, but I was happy with it for the price. Mine is a user. That being said, for me, $800 is getting up there to the point that I'd tap out.

I wouldn't take that PM2 over any of my customs (all of which have been cheaper than that so far)...

To be fair though, I've seen a lot of customs that I wouldn't spend nearly the money they're asking on either (same with Mid-Techs).

I have had every single flavor of the Para 2 sprint. Without a doubt, the S90V sprint is by far the smoothest, best quality ones made thus far. The grinds, the action smoothness, the CF handles fit and finish etc. I have sold all of them except 1 S30V camo/black and 2 of the S90V sprints.

Now, is one worth $800? IMO, no way. Is it the best Para 2 to date? Yes, by a long shot. YMMV

Seems like rather record prices have inspired a flood of them at auction now. One has the bargain price of $1,000 buy-it-now — or best offer!

That's just your specimen and you got lucky. Spyderco doesn't put more effort in f&f in those sprints other than use different/ better materials. I handled different s90v sprints and they did not all have the perfect f&f my regular para 2s have. So you really can't say the s90v para is the smoothest, best f&f etc... out of all sprints. Quality varies from each specimen to another.
