para2 cf

I've had the absolute pleasure to deal with Don from Gator Scales. He is indeed based out of Florida and he was an absolutely stand-up guy. Honest pricing and great fit and finish. I felt like he did a lot more than I expected him to do (we worked out a trade for my used and scratched up Para1 Black coating for the scales and I felt like his scales were worth much more than the Para1 I sent him. Granted this was before the Para2 bubble where even used Para1's are fetching $100+, or maybe I just underestimated the Para's worth) He made some CF scales for my Mule and had great communication, sending updates and pictures as soon as he could. I sent him my design for the scales and he copied them perfectly so I am sure he would be able to make great scales for a Para2. In short, I would not hesitate to have Don make some scales for me as I know he would make them at a quality equal to factory scales from Spyderco.

Can anyone who owns a carbon fiber scaled PM2 comment on how they compare to the G10 scales? Are they stronger? Or is it just more of an awesome novelty having cf scales?

The CF scales are just lighter and feel harder to me than the G10 ones(entirely subjective). I don't really go for premium scale material or like to pay for it. G10 is pretty awesome for me. The steel is what makes my S90V para special to me, not the scales.

They are a whisker lighter - I could not distinguish without a scale. They are a little stiffer. The Military and Paramilitary2 versions sound a little different when they lock up than their G10 counterparts. I assume it's sort of like the difference between different woods used in guitar construction - the CF is a slightly different sounding board, in effect, for the lock than G10. Mostly I think it's the novelty of a premium scale material. :)
