Para2....yes another thread on availability

The exchange scares me. Sorry but to many deals gone bad lately.

The new feedback system hopefuly helps things.

So I might better understand the problem.

Did you place an order for a PM2 from SPYDERCO 6 months ago and they have not filled your order, but now show up to Blade with ample inventory of PM2s that should have gone to fill existing orders?

Or,

Have you been looking for vendors to have inventory of them, and they don't, and you heard that Spyderco is selling them directly at Blade?

Just curious, thanks.

It is Blade after all. Only the biggest knife show of the year. People spend alot of money getting to this show and the dealers/makers/manufacturers make it worth our while by putting on the greatest show on earth.
There will be perks for the ones that can make it to the show, and thats just the way it is, and as it should be.

Not directly from Spyderco, from an online dealer

Cutlery Shoppe has had them in several times (in small batches) over the last 6 months.

Get on facebook, like the FB pages for several of your favorite sellers, get on their email addresses, and you should bet notified when they have them in-stock.

How many places have you ordered one from? If only one place, then you should be upset with that particular vendor and not Spyderco.

This maybe a stupid question but why didn't you buy one when they were readily available?

Not directly from Spyderco, from an online dealer

So you are saying that it is lame of Spyderco, because an online dealer doesn't have the knife you want?

I might suggest that it is really cool of Spyderco to eliminate the middle man (that may or may not be skimming orders for their friends) and going directly to their fans who go to Blade. Further I might also suggest that some people save and plan an entire year to attend and buy at Blade...these guys might think it would be lame if Spyderco shipped all their inventory to dealers and showed up to Blade empty handed (particularly since they waited 12 months).

Sorry man, I cannot fault Spyderco on this. For all we know, they have been supplying dealers (a limited quantity) this whole time and some people in the right place at the right time (and you were not).

Para 2's have been hard to come by but they do pop up if you really stay on top of all the good dealers online. I checked maybe 8-10 dealers everyday a few times a day a couple months ago and was able to score 3 of them during that time. Even my knifecenter order came through.

I can see why you would get frustrated, but I am a little confused why it is in such high demand at $110+. My Para 2 has lived in it's box for most of the past 2 years. I like my s30v manix just as much. I actually rotate my blue endura, blue tencious and lightweight blue manix. Those are just the Spydercos. Consumer demand has increased the price to the point where I am no longer willing to pay for an additional para2. :grumpy: Now that the prices are almost the same, I would get a military over a Para2 any day of the week ("now thats a knife").;)

Sorry meant discussion on possible feedback system in the future.

Spyderco encourages online retailers they have stated this many times and demonstrate based on pricing at the factory vs. elsewhere.

Also when I called Spyderco they said they were shipping the few paras to the site I ordered from, however the site had a different story and said they have not received any in a long time. This is not a small retailer, one of the bigger ones.

If I am wrong I am wrong. Maybe it is where I have decided to put my order in on.

It sounds like Spyderco may not be the one doing you wrong. Then again, you might be at the end of a long line at that particular retailer.

You definitely may be correct and if so I apologize fully. I never thought Spyderco did me wrong directly, and again I will always be a fanboy!

I have been trying to get my hands on one also I kept checking dealer sites everyday and eventually blade hq had them so I finally got one but they sold out fast

I have been waiting for over 6 months too. I look almost daily on many different sites, I am also not interested in buying a used PM2

LOL... Now I'm on the hunt for one again myself. Just traded my only PM2. But....... I got a good deal. I traded it for a Ti Lum Tanto. He's happy, I'm happy, now I just have to find another PM2.

Aside from the Spyderco display case, I only saw ONE PM2 for sale at the Blade Show. I wasn't looking to buy one, so I may have missed a few...

But the one I saw was a new Orange sprint at one of the larger knife reseller booths. It was tucked away in a back corner of their display, not with the other Spydies. AFAIK, it was still there late Saturday evening. It was priced in the mid 200s, or else I would have picked it up...

Problems with availability are very frustrating to the consumer, and many of us don't appreciate the games that the manufacturers are playing with production and distribution. If dealers are all on restricted supply and waiting lists, then why would it not be fair to subject the people at blade show to the same restricted supply and waiting lists?

I realize that manufacturers can and will do whatever they feel like doing, including playing games with production and distribution. I'm going to suggest to every manufacturer that they consider the future and compare that to what they are doing right now. Most segments of our current economy are hurting and not seeing the sales that they would like to see. For some reason there are a lot of enthusiasts willing to buy knives, and the hot knives are in high demand. It may not be that way forever, and we may see a day in the future when people are not wanting to buy knives and manufacturers are hurting for customers. If a manufacturer loses their loyal fan base that could be enough to put them out of business in lean times. And playing games with production and distribution is a good way to turn off your customers and lose your loyal fan base.

Consider other manufacturers- Benchmade is bringing out new models and doesn't seem to have any problems keeping up with demand on their current production. Kershaw/KAI/ZT is really stepping up and producing a lot of interesting new models. Other manufacturers might be taking note and making plans to step in and fill the void left by Spyderco. I could take the money that I want to spend on new Spyderco models and spend it on Benchmades and Kershaws instead. When I have spent that money it is gone and if and when Spyderco ever catches up with production it would be too bad because I would no longer have the money to spend and they would have lost out on those potential sales.

The first rule of retail is to have the product that your customers want to purchase. If you don't have the product then you have failed. The second rule of retail is when customers are lined up to give you money, have a plan in place to take that money. I've got the money ready, in fact I've already PAID for 2 upcoming Spyderco knives that we just learned have been delayed another 3 or 4 months. Not everybody can let their money sit there tied up for 3 or 4 months waiting, and with Spyderco's track record this might very well be the first of many delays. Someone can calculate the current delay for the green para2's and tell us. I'm guessing that since they preorder sold out over 18 months ago, the actual delay to deliver the product is something like 12 months right now.

Right now I have an interest in buying about 6 upcoming Spyderco knives, but the knives are not available and possibly could not be available in 2013. If not I might spend that money on something else and Spyderco would miss out on some good sales. Someone please explain to them that this is not good for their business.
