I am in a bit of a dilemma at the moment.

I bought my Benchmade shoki 480-1 and love it for EDC at work/every day life, however in the times I go on the outside I would like to have a couple of hard use folders, I always keep two with me when I go camp, or what not since my family doesn't take their own.

Calvin recently had a sale and I've picked a ZT 561 for a good price.

Should I keep the ZT 561 as a hard use knife and pick up a S30V Paramilitary 2 ($100)
Or Sell the ZT 561 and buy a m390 Paramilitary 2 and pick up a lesser expenisive kershaw, or ZT?
Elmax vs M390 is not a deal breaker, I am aware of both steel's performance and would find bother adequate for my use.
EDIT: I will be buying a Paramilitary S35V if I do keep the ZT 561.
What do you guys think?
So far I am leaning towards the ZT 561 just because of the features and aesthetics.
Or should I just save up and get the M390 later on?

I will leave it for a vote.

keep it. If you want a tough blade and moderacte to good edge retention, then you have the perfect one.

Keep the 561, its a very tough knife, and get the S35VN Para that you mention. Thats the one I kept because I really liked the brown color, and its a great all around steel. I'm not a fan of blue G10 either.

edit- I didn't vote since the 561 and S35VN was not an option, even though you said you would keep the 561 if you got the brown Para.
Well, I guess I will go vote for the 561 since you said you would keep it if you go with the Brown S35VN.

I would get a PM2 S35VN (newer version) if I kept the 561.
If I got the M390 I would buy a Kershaw or less expensive ZT.

Top result=both:p

They really are two very different knives, both outstanding in their own way. I'd keep the 561 and get the Para II s35vn. Any doubts about the steel? Keep in mind Rick Hinderer, Chris Reeve and Sal all endorse it. You'll be please.

I've had newer S35VN Sebenza, in my opinion no difference from the S30V sebenza. The Buck vantage pro S30v is still a little better in wood/cardboard cutting tasks.

Having a para2 in s30 and M390 and a 561, I would keep the 561 as a hard use blade and buy one of the lesser steels in the para 2 as a slicer. The premium steel in the 2 makes a great EDC blade that will hold a great edge for a long time but are hard to get now at a reasonable price

I think i will grab one of those M390 Paras just to get some lovely ffg m390 and more awesome blue g-10, despite having blown my foreseeable knife budget out the window

As far as i know from inspecting their line once or twice, i would never buy a ZT, not because i doubt their quality, mostly i just do not like their handle shapes and cut frame locks

I abide by the maxim that an important issue like this cannot be resolved in the absence of the appropriate eye candy.

What do you mean by cut framelocks? The pocketing/skeletonizing?

I would get a PM2 S35VN (newer version) if I kept the 561.

This is what I would do.

(I have both PM2's and I want a 560 or 561. I have thought about trying to trade the M390 for a 560 but I haven't gotten to the point of letting it go yet. I'm thinking of digging up something else to try to trade for a 560/561.)

Since we're obligated to post photos now...

I have 4 PM2's a ZT 0560 and 2 ZT 0551's. I would recommend the PM2 M390 and a ZT 0550 (for cost savings vs the 0551).

I would keep ZT561. I love the knife and get standard para2 as a slicer. Unless you love brown G10, IMHO S35VN is not worth an extra $30 to compare with S30V. And I absolutely would never pay an extra hundred for blue para.

I have an s30v para and I love it. I don't have experience with the m390 and I'd make my own blue scales rather than pay $100 more for them to come with the knife. I really like the look of the ZT as well. I'd have to choose both.

Keep the ZT, good call on getting a Para2 in S35vn to go along with the 0561...win win imho.

keep the ZT 561, and save up for the M390 Paramilitary 2. don't compromise, get what you want. if you end up not liking the Paramilitary 2, you can sell it on the exchange for what you bought it for.

Both is how I voted... I own a 0561 it's light for it's size. Crazy Sharp. Very smooth flipper.
Para II !!! Nuff said. I own several sprints & EDC one - Spyderco designed Gr8ness!
Good luck on your decision.
