ok guys, sorry for the whole bashing of spyderco. its just that this was my first spyderco and it turned out to be a fake/lemon. i did contact the seller and he is going to give me a refund. i am going to use that refund to purchase a REAL spyderco from spyderco themselves. i know it sounds like a huge contradiction but you guys are right. i shouldn't hate a whole company because of my own mistakes. i do thank those who ACTUALLY helped me in looking into what a fake is and now i know that i should stick to my other trusted knife stores (knifeworks, bladeHQ, etc.). i will go with a sage 2 and hopefully it will show what a REAL spyderco can do. again, sorry for having a meltdown. i thank almost all of you for helping me. and sal if yo are reading this, i am extremely sorry for denouncing you and your company.

Excellent turnabout here. Good for you owning up like a man should. You may just turn into a raging Spydie lover yet!

Buy from a reputable dealer. Ebay is not the place to buy. There are at least 10 VERY GOOD online retailers that are all reputable. Trying to save a buck buying from eBay only causes problems.

I don't completely write off Ebay. For me the biggest deciding factor of whether or not to buy off Ebay is what I'm buying.

I'd been wanting to buy a Gayle Bradley for awhile so when they went discontinued I decided to get one. Bought it off ebay and paid $112 shipped/pp'ed BNIB.

I felt comfortable buying one off ebay because AFAIK they've never been faked.

When it came in I knew within 5 seconds it was the real deal..generally speaking the fit and finish of Taichung made Spydercos are in a different league.

Same with the Ulize, went discontinued, AFAIK never faked, bought off Ebay, and its the real deal.

A Para2 is one knife I would never buy off ebay, to many good honest dealers that carry those to take a gamble on ebay.

People say "don't buy from ebay" and "only buy from an authorized dealer" but there are a few good ebay sellers who are authorized dealers. There are also not many options if you are looking for rare, numbered, etc. and those are going to come from private parties.

So my advice is not to throw the baby out with the bath water as the old saying goes. Caveat Emptor applies to everywhere you purchase from.

Hi Borage,

Yes, I am reading this. Sorry for your experience. Some counterfeits are very difficult to detect and we must have it in our hands to tell for sure.

And I too hate that there are counterfeits. They all come from China and the Chinese makers making counterfeits are very proud of their work. We've spoken to our Congressman. We've spoken before Congress. We work with Customs. We have 3 attorneys in China always on the hunt for crooks. We've yet to find an effective solution.

The Chinese Government doesn't seem to want to do anything about it and it's not just Spyderco or the knife industry. It's a problem in many industries. It hurts us financially and it hurts our reputation.

Very true, and nicely said. I agree.

Wow. Reading this thread all at once has been a real roller coaster ride. :)

I hope you enjoy your new (and real!) Spyderco, OP. I own several and they're all fantastic.

Good for you bud, you spat the dummy after a bad experience but then fronted up, owned it, and moved on. All's well that ends well.
When you get your first Spyderco, pocket it, carry it, use it for a while, then let us know what you think.

The only time I made my edge like that was prying a bic safety off a lighter

And it wasn't nearly that bad either

Agreed. The last edge I saw like that was on a Chinese made Ganzo after my friend the martial artist did several glancing strikes on a hard wood post before driving it into a wood table. And it didn't look quite as bad as the OP's photos. The only knife I've been that mean to is a BK14 Eskabar, so hopefully I will never see at which point the edge fails on any of my precious Spydies.

I just stropped it with a 6000 grit belt that's slightly worn and some white rouge and it came out easily

I hope this thread stays open; it is very informative. It is rare to see someone admit a mistake and apologise on a forum, and I respect the OP for doing so. Let us know how you like the real PM2.

Wow, this thread made me check the jimping on mine lol. Much to my relief it's angled backwards and sharp and clean. Only time the edge ever get close to being like that was when I let some idiot relative use it. Left the edge with a bunch of tiny nicks in it that took me a long time to get out on a Sharpmaker. That S30V is hard as a rock, well probably actually lol.

Wisdom is knowing that you can always learn more, and learning from your past.

Enjoy your real Spyderco - I am sure you will be much happier!

Hi Borage,

I believe I need to see the knife in question. Please send it to me and not the seller. I am in communication with the seller and he seems to be a good person that would not intentionally sell a fake. If is not a fake, and you had the problems that you are having, then I need to examine the piece. And I need to see it before anything or anyone touches the the knife. Please contact customer service at Spyderco. customerservice@spyderco.com or telephone and we will figure out the best way to retrieve the piece.

Your kind understanding and cooperation is appreciated.

Nice. It would be foolish to deprive yourself of the joy the real deal will give you. I get the sour taste from being duped. Glad you gave it another go.
Happy for you.

yea no...im just kinda done with spyderco. im not getting my money back and thats it. it was my fault and i may miss out on a good company with this but im never buying from spyderco fake or not. and 120 dollars USD...

i did admit to my own mistake but that doesnt mean it doesnt leave any less of a bitter taste and opinion on what happened.

Unspeakably irrational and immature. Work out your issues like an adult before you back up the dump truck and dump a load of $h!t. This thread reflects terribly badly - but not on Spyderco.
