Paramilitary 2 Worth the Hype?

Have to toss my hat into the ring for the PM2 as well. Helluva helluva knife!!!!!!

The compression lock might look strange, but I assure you that it is one of the strongest locks out there. It's not a liner lock in the traditional sense, what it is is excellent mechanical engineering.

The liner lock's strength is the biggest turn off (too many crappy ones I guess), but I do not really like operating them either. The compression lock looks like it too much to me. I really need to handle one, as I have only seen them in person behind the counter.

I bought one and than said I need a spare. I wish I had a got a blue and some of the other colors and blade steel!

You might find this interesting (picture is not mine and it is the Para1 but the same principle applies):

From this you can see the Compression lock is quite different then a liner lock in its manner of locking the blade open.

Finally, for me a knives lock needs to be reliable if dirt etc gets into it and should be easy to clean out. The compression lock, ball bearing lock and axis lock I have found to be the least affected by debris in the lock.

Yeah, it looks really strong in principle and, obviously, in reality, but the turnoff is how you operate it. I do not like the sideways finger action is all.

All you need to do, is pinch the knife. What I like is that there is really no way to accidentally disengage the lock during use. It must be a deliberate action. Een with standard Mechanix style gloves, the knife can be unlocked. Different strokes I guess.

In nearly 28 years of carrying a folding pocket knife (in numerous brands and configurations), I have to say the para-2 is the best folder I have ever used/owned. That's not hype, just my opinion.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread a bit, but would you guys say the Para 2 is better than a standard Military or Manix XL, or are they all around the same?

That's a hard one, I personally prefer the Military over the Paramilitary 2 just because I like bigger knives. But I think the Paramilitary 2 is more elegant and ergonomic.

I have found that operating the compression lock isn't much different from the way I close my lockbacks. Same mechanics. It's perception - you can either fight and discharge the design... or you can adapt to it.

I'm digging it.

I own a few. Never carry them though. I really hate the lock. Why the heck did they put a liner lock where you cant easily access it?! Why couldnt they just do a normal liner lock like the Millie?! The para must have a polish designer! Glad I saw this thread. There will be a few para's on the exchange soon! Nice ones too! Love my Spydies but much prefer my Gayle or one of my Sage's!
More for us! (Liner lock.. sheesh..)

The lock looks strange to me, and as I have never liked liner locks, is a real turn off. I like Spyderco's lockbacks much more. It does look like a nice slicer, but I would sooner get a flat ground Endura with a ZDP-189 blade.

If people disliked something, they should at least be knowledgeable enough to know what is is they are disliking. :p

I love the Para 2, best knife I own right now. I can't find another large edc blade to replace it. Buttery smooth, I enjoy the compression lock as well. I have noticed through skimming the posts in here it is thought of as a liner lock by a large group of people. :/ The dlc coating is just amazing too. Ergo's are great too and I love the S30V. The knife has lived up to its name so far for me.

I have one Para 2 that has the DLC coating. That stuff is crazy tough! I have used it quite a bit on tough material and it looks nearly new. Does not seem to be wearing in the slightest. It is also one of the easiest knives to open and close one handed.

Had one. Satin/camo version. Hell of a slicer. My lady liked it more than I did so I let her have it. If I get another one its going to be Black/Black.

The compression lock (not a liner lock!) is a fantastic vault-like lock. I hate when people confuse it with a liner lock. One look at the physics behind it easily shows the difference.

The reason it's on the spine has more to do with the bushing system (which allows the blade to drop freely). If it wasn't on the spine we'd all be missing fingers (or at least wearing lots of bandaids! Lol!!!).

Love my Para2s!!!

I'm Polish. I have two MA's and a PhD, and yes, my wife has to screw in the light bulbs. What about it?
