ParaMilitary, anyone carry in-pocket, not clipped?

... Its got some sharp bits that are hard on clothes and hands even when clipped and the open back and lock will both get clogged with coins and keys.

Can those sharp bits be "eased" with careful application of a sharpening stone/rod? I find many knives have some harsh edges right out of the box that I just take my Lansky medium crock-stick sharpening rod to them and smooth them out.

I love the knife, in fact I have one clipped to my casual friday wear right now, but for a discreet carry or in pocket folder for the office there are much better options IMO.
which isn't to say you shouldn't get one cuz you defintely should.

So, can I assume that you think the Para is worth owning? :D

Mike

If it were me, I would just look for a different knife. Maybe a Stretch II or a Caly 3.

Already have a Caly3 (love it) and the Stretch II doesn't do it for me.

I kind of think of the Para as a Caly3 on steriods :D Similar shape, but way more rugged/hand filling. Some days I am in the mood for something more substantial than the Caly.

Thanks,
Mike

You may want to consider an excellent mod from STR. The lowrider clip almost completely conceals the knife. I am thinking about getting one for my new Para D2.

Thanks, I might look into that.

Mike

I carry mine with out a clip in right back pocket. I put together a leather lanyard tied like the ones that come on the Sebbies. Just the tip of the leather knot is out the back pocket, so It is easy to get to, but causes no worries to my fellow sheeple.

I've tried the back pocket thing. Anything larger than a Spyderco Spin and I find myself sitting on it (I drive a desk all day long :( ) and my butt doesn't much appreciate sitting on the knife after a while.

Mike

Yes it has a chance of collecting keys or coins if carried in the same pocket as those items while carried loose. :(

Hey, you're not helping to convince me to buy this knife! :D

Seriously though, do you know this from experience or are you assuming (like I am) that this will be the case?

I've found that the severity of the problem varies from knife to knife. Some really collect coins and get dings on the cutting edge, and others much less. Seems to be related to blade grind and how close to the back of the knife the cutting edge is when the knife is closed.

Thanks for your input,
Mike

It will, I make a point to carry mine clipped in a pocket without much extra stuff. I've found coins stuck in the back and in the lock from sitting in odd positions, feet up, with the knife and loose change or keys in my pocket.

Bummer... :grumpy:

Might just have to buy it anyway and find a way to make it work :D

True...True... I like the way you think ;)

Is there someone that you know of that does such things?

Mike

The only one that I could think of right now that may do it is STR. You could also ask around I'm sure someone on here has the skill to do it.

I carry a paramillie in my right back pocket with no clip. I have no problems with chaffing my pockets or feeling uncomfortable when I sit on it. It's just such a slender profile that it's perfect for that. (I work in an office environment and it sits perfect in my slacks).

Good luck,

Brett

Thanks Brett,

I haven't had good luck with that, but when my para arrives tomorrow, I'll have to give that a try. Maybe it is thin/flat enough to work.

Thanks,
Mike
