Paramilitary II

I got a Para2 a month or so ago. It was the 12th Spyderco knife in my collection, not counting the knives from other manufacturers and makers. While I'm a huge Spyderco fan I can say that this knife didn't do much for me being so late to join my collection. It does everything very well, but doesn't do anything exceptionally well. Had this been one of my first knives, or one of my first Spyderco knives, it would have never left my collection. But compared to all the rest of the Spyderco offerings, it didn't do anything for me that my Tenacious wasn't already doing. If you're looking for an excellent EDC, you found the knife. If you're looking for something 'special' you might need to keep looking.

My current list of Spyderco knives (only because it might help to understand where I'm coming from on the 'lacks something special' compared to the collective offering).
- Domino
- Szabo
- Endura 4
- Delica
- Lum Chinese
- Gayle Bradley
- Navaja
- Tenacious
- Dragonfly
- Vallotton Sub Hilt
- Citadel

Just my .02. In reality it seems like 99% of people love that knife and they are only just coming back into stock at most retailers.

Having owned 100s of knives from almost everyone, spyderco, benchmade, emerson, strider, you name it. I seem to always come back to the para2. This is my 3rd one but first with the black blade and I don't think it's leaving anytime soon.

The PM2 is my all-time favorite knife, hands down. The first one I bought was the black handle/satin blade. I liked it, but something just didn't click with me. I got sucked into people complaining about the blade to handle length ratio and stopped appreciating the knife for all its greatness. Two years and a dozen high-end knives later, I bought a camo/satin PM2 and I LOVE it. Now I've grown to appreciate the black one. Its a knife that does everything well: edge retention, comfortable grip in various positions, strong lock, fast deployment, quality construction, effective grinding, etc.. Sure, I wish the blade was 1/16-1/8" longer with the same handle, but its so easy to make controlled cuts with the size that it is there is no grounds to complain. Hoping they make these long enough for me to buy some to pass down to my kids someday. The Stretch is my second favorite knife and its thinner in the pocket, but the G10 and compression lock put the PM2 ahead. How freaking cool is the digicam???!!!

I got my first PM2 shortly it first became available. I LOVE(d) that knife!!! Then I lost it after a few months and was sick about it. It took me a while to get a replacement since it was always out of stock everywhere I looked. But I finally did replace it with another PM2 and life was good. So good in fact that I found my lost PM2. Now I have 2! A buddy of mine asked if I would sell him the extra one but I told him I don't have an "extra"... I have a backup. This is the first time I've ever bought 2 of any knife and I'm thinking I may need another one too... just in case.

Anyways, yeah, I love my PM2(s). I love the compression lock. It is very solid. The handle is great and is very comfortable with multiple positions that are all comfortable. The finger choil for close-up work is excellent. Some say the blade to handle balance is off but I appreciate the longer handle. It has solid steel choice in an ideal blade shape and size for my use. The jimping and overall traction is very good. I love the Spydie hole!!! I can open it easily multiple ways with either hand and with gloves on. The pocket clip is good but if there was one thing I would change on the PM2, it would be the clip. I'd make it deep carry or better yet, like the wire pocket clip on my Sage which is in my opinion, perfect. Speaking of the Sage, it is my office EDC due to size constraints. Liners are nested and milled for weight savings. Mine did not have blade play but I did put more LocTite blue on it when I took it apart, cleaned and lubed it. Overall, it is a light, tough and ergonomic folder. I'd easily pay $200 each for the PM2 so the $105(ea) I paid, I think it is also high value.

The PM2 is my favorite folding knife out of all my other folders:
Zero Tolerance ZT0300
Zero Tolerance ZT0550
Benchmade 710D2
Benchmade Griptilian
Benchmade Mini Griptilian
Buck Vantage Pro S30V
Kershaw Skyline
Kershaw JYD
Kershaw Leek
Spyderco Tenacious
Spyderco Sage 3 CF
Spyderco Endura G10
CRKT Hissatsu
CRKT Ripple (frame lock)

I have my sights set on my next purchase that may oust the PM2 from my fav slot - the ZT0560. We shall see...
