Well, knifenuts, heres an update on the pass around knife saga!!
It is now in the hands of Alan Folts who is doing the most gorgeous decorative carving you've ever even dreamed of on a knife. He will then send it to Oz who will make the bolsters and the guard fit tighter than a virgin's...oops. Oz will then shoot it to Kit Carson who has graciously volunteered to take some time out of his busy schedule to silver solder the guard on for us. Kit invented the technique of silver soldering, bet ya didn't know that!!!
He will then send it to Barry Jones for a hand rubbed finish! Barry will send it to me so I can dovetail the bolsters and the mammoth ivory handles. I'll send it to Drew for some custom fit and file worked handle liners. Drew,it makes alot of sense to me for you to go ahead and put the bolsters and handles on it. Whatcha think??? Then you can either buff the guard, bolsters, and handles, or send it to someone else for this. It will then go to Anders Johanson(he lives in Sweden...wow) so his wife can do some of her awesome scrimshaw on the ivory handles for us. You can see a sample of her brilliant work in Stihl's pass around thread. He will then send it to Jens Anso in Denmark for a gorgeous hand made leather and alligator skin sheath. Jens would then send it to Bruce Bump to have his friend, Tom Moro ,do some fantastic engraving on the bolsters and guard. It would then go to John Yeackley who will make a beautiful display stand for it.Then I'm not sure where it goes!! I am sure all of us who are working on it sure would like to see it in person and actually handle it, but it wouldn't be practical to send it around to all of us, I suppose. Shoot!! So, I think the next Forumite to get it would be Mike Turber so he can get to the business of raffling it off. How much do you folks think the tickets should cost, and how long should they be sold before the raffle? OOps, guess I should ask Mike if he has the time to run the raffle first! Well, thats the way it is, 29 January 2000. Thank the Lord for Blade Forums and all these wonderful forumites!!! Take care knifenuts!!! Michael
