Passing of John White

I had no idea John was ill. I first met John at Little Rock and only knew him as an energic and fun loving man. So warm and friendly, he accepted me as a long time friend.
He will be missed in this community of makers and collectors.
Sorry for the loss Jill and the family

So many comments here remind me of what John left as his legacy. His warmth and humor, his talent for making you feel as if you'd known him forever the first time you met him, his generosity and his brilliant spirit. And such boundless talent in the art of making fine knives. What a great loss. What a wonderful man.

I haven't seen John since the BLADE show this year. I wish I had talked with him longer then; not to gain more of the knife knowledge he so freely shared, but to just to spend more time with a really fine gentleman. Prayers for Jill and his family, he will be greatly missed.

My Condolences to Jill.
I spoke with him a few weeks ago about a project we were going to start this month. I was just thinking about him yesterday while looking at a photo of one of his Bowies. Although I sadly never met him, I felt that I knew him well through our chats.
RIP John you were certainly one of the greats.

Stunned. Shaking my head and trying to catch my breath. A great knifemaker and one to be sorely missed by all. Still can't quite believe it.

I am deeply saddened by this news. John and I met quite a few years back at Blade and as others already said from the start he made you feel like a lifelong friend. When John started his Legacy Series I signed up for one of these exceptional knives. Unfortunately through unforeseen circumstances I had to cancel my order, and he was a real gentleman about it. Over the years we kept in touch via email and although we never met again I think of him as a dear friend. My condolences to Jill and his family.

Shocking and tragic news this morning. My prayers and condolences to John's family. Regrettably, I never met John in person though it was at the very top of my bucket list of things to do in knifemaking. I did have a couple phone conversations with him and found his personality and demeanor to be everything said of him here. His work was very inspirational to me and I'll miss seeing the posts.

My thoughts are also with all of you who lost your friend.

It is with a heavy heart that Lydia and I read this news on Facebook this morning. He was one of the finest people I've ever met and was one of my my most valued mentors. We will miss him greatly, and our prayers go out to Jill.

This was shocking news. There was never a better craftsman than John White.

I cant help but to think of the unfinished beauty that was to emerge from his shop and from his skilled hands. Projects undone and life unlived and his friendship interrupted by this tragic event. Such a gentleman and inspiring friend.

Sad to read of John's passing. My regards and prayers to his family and friends and to those of us here who have lost another great from this exquisite community of craftsmen and women.

i never met Mr White (wish i could have) but greatly admired his knives.
