you've got hold of a very interesting commemorative piece with that French knife. Aluminium was something of a luxury item when it was made in the c19th, as a relatively new material. It's worn down somewhat as it's a soft metal and developed is own patina too. It was issued during the period 1891-4 when the French 3rd Republic 1870-1940 signed a number of significant military and economic treaties with Tsarist Russia as a counterbalance to the Central Powers (Austria-Hungary, Imperial Germany, Italy) . Later culminating in The Great War 1914-18.It may explain the images of weapons stamped on the knife's handles. A good find there, most unusual.
