This one came to me with a good amount of patina.

I'm doing an experiment doing a forced patina on stainless. Will be posting pics soon. Bought a cheap frost canoe at a flea market just for this experiment. First trial turned out good, stainless turned out looking kinda like the blade in rdave's post. Pics coming probably tomorrow eve.;):D

What the heck happened to that blade? Looks like it got ran through some kind of machine or something? Pretty neat!
That's what my wife's meatloaf does to a blade.;):D
I think that it is a "hammer forged" texture. My understanding is that some companies did this texture to appease the public perception that forged blades were better than stock ground blades. I could be wrong, though.

That patterned patina goes so perfectly with those handles. Just an all-around COOL looking knife.

Thanks John, patina all happened by accident but I do like this knife most of all my 56s, the Bone, the Half Hawk make it a very nice user.

Regards, Will

Stainless steel patina experiment: Blades are stainless, and were polished.
Small blade: scuffed with 800 grit Emory paper, submerged in "The works" toilet bowl cleaner liquid not gel, up to the tang,6 hours. Result when removed and rinsed with water, looked "parkerized" rubbed with 1500 grit emory until cleaned, taking care not to polish out to much. Metal is etched and darkened.
Large blade: laid knife in a plastic coffee container lid, used a wood skewer to paint on "The works" toilet cleaner, allowing some to puddle on the blade and some between blade and plastic lid. Repeated several times last evening, once b4 leaving for work. Rinsed and cleaned, light buffing with 1500 grit. Resulted in random pattern. WARNING! The works contains mild acid, use caution. Also will rust the crap out of anything not stainless. Just being near the reaction caused brass to tarnish as well. Will try 2nd experiment on a elk ridge fixed blade next. Sorry for the long post, hope you guys are interested in my little project, thanks!
