Patinas and Pitting

LOL @ Pit-Tina

I've left D2 bloody, and used it in salt water, and I can't pit it that bad. I'm wondering if it's actually D2.

At any rate, it was advertised as patina and it is clearly not, so send it back and give appropriate feedback on the seller.

That is not "patina". That is "major corrosion", aka "pitting".

If it were I, I would sent it back if I received such a knife after that sales description.

Agree. Send it back.

Curious - what make/model of knife is that?

Used knife ? NO it's been misused badly ! Don't blame Benchmade for that.

That pitting is deep enough to question the integrity of the blade. Unless it can be ground out, it's not even good for a user imo.

The seller seemed honest, has 120+ positive feedback and was very cool about taking it back. I think he honestly didn't understand the difference in pitting and patina.

Really a shame because I loved the knife otherwise.:thumbdn:

Obviously the seller used it to fight an alien. That is the effect of the aliens saliva.

Glad you got it returned!

I shipped the knife back to the seller and he refunded my money. Then he sent me a pissy message telling me the knife wasn't pitted, which it most certainly was as shown in my pictures. He now claims it was "just surface rust." First it was "a patina," now it's "surface rust." Surface rust that just happened to leave pits in the steel.

So much for my giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah, it's just surface rust. You can buff it right out, in under an hour, with a 60 grit grinding wheel. You may even have some blade stock left.

The seller is obviously delusional and probably smoking some type of crystalline substance.

Any seller with that kind of attitude should be named 100%.

Forums like these are for enthusiasts to enjoy, discuss and trade goods honestly/accurately.

It's not a scrap yard to unload your junk neglected blades you've been too lazy to maintain. People with that kind of attitude i imagine are just the crappiest kind of people to be around in real life, it takes a specific kind of personality to "not care" about things like this, snotty little kid.

wow......ive seen carbon steels that bad but never d2. wonder what it took and how long to get to that state.
