I feel the seller cares for his customers and reputation like he does his knives.

I personally would like to know who he/she is, but this isn't the place for it.
Open a neutral (if not on the low end of the scale) thread in G, B & U. While he wasn't upfront and honest about the condition of the knife, an immediate refund was issued.
