Pattada, I'm in lust

I'd be OK with the old length (as long as she's wearing K390). [...]3.92 inch (100mm) blade length is better (for me).

any chance of k390 in the original size sal?

I know it’s not a poll, but I’m in the “original size” +K390 camp too.

A samall Pattada might be interesting, but the original’s length & proportions really bring out the sexiness of the blade shape.

Pending how the smaller version is executed, I would totally be in for one (or two) of each. As is, the one that is available now is super sexy, and would WAY more so with K390 (or M390) with an excellent heat treat - IMO of course . Do please give me a bit of a heads up so I can make sure I get at least one of each before they run out.

u.w.

before they run out.
Oh lets do make it a standard, at least for a year or more.
If I have to fight for it in the trough I may just skip it. I have about all the knives I need or want and my full flat ground Ti Lite IV CTS-XHP is so close to the Pattadda, even to the liner lock, . . . well . . . lets hope it doesn't come to that.

if i had to id set my alarm for 1 am to get the k390 full size pattada, but i agree, lets hope we dont have to...if it even happens. fingers crossed.

The problems are always more complex than it might appear. I appreciate that some of you like the design and would like to see it in other variations. I like the design, and I'm the guy that designed it. But in reality, the Pattada is not a fast mover and with a minimum of 1200 pcs per run, we will sit on inventory of slower designs for a long time. Sometimes years. The alternative is to close the design out at a very low price and lose money over the entire run.

We discussed this design in a product meeting recently because of your requests. It was decided that the model is not popular enough to risk the production of another 1200 pc run, especially in an exotic material(s) that will probably make it more expensive and thus even slower to sell. Some designs are attractive to larger markets, some are not. That doesn't mean we won't try it in production, but often those are short runs.

We try very hard to serve our customers (ELU) as best we can, but we also have to pay staff and electricity. We do have a few models that we maintain in the line, despite slower sales because they serve particular markets that we honor (eg: Whale Blades, P'Kal, etc.). Should we decide to make a Pattada Sprint sometime in the future after all of the inventory has reached customers (ELU), we will consider K390 or whatever material you, the customer, would like.

Sal :
Thank you for the update.
It is a shame more people can not be made aware of what a superior design, for use, that your Pattada is.
Oh well . . back to big fat and wide.

You're the man Sal! Thanks for the update, and keep doing what you do. Nothing but respect & admiration from my end.

It’s “ Unboxing Day “ at the little support group.

Sal :
Just to show my support (for what it’s worth) I bought me a Pattada ! (I put my money where my mouth is)
Just doing my part (and I'm in lust).
I was holding out for the K390 but once that was finalized I could wait no longer and went with the N690Co.
Before I ordered I looked at the discussions again :
  • N690Co is similar to VG10 . . . thats great with me
  • N690Co is Austrian steel . . . that’s great with me
Just for info sake the blade is stamped Maniago, Italy

If the K390 turns up in a year or ten I’ll be there for one.

Looks like ~0.50 mm behind the edge ~ 0.019 inch
Looks like a semi polished convex edge.

I could get kind of critical here but I haven't used the knife enough at work to say for sure.
The finish on the side of the knife is kind of polished(ish) . . . what I like about it is when I take the edge of my thumb nail along it length wise as well as spine to edge it feels slick like it would slip easily through what is being cut so that's a good thing.

Most of the reason I am posting is I have searched quite a lot here going back to like 2002 discussions of N690Co and I haven't found much in the way of discussion of which stones this steel likes best.
Will Norton water stones do it ? I'm thinking this may be the best way to go for deburing.
Do I need Shapton Pros ? Is that going to cut the steel most efficiently rather than glaze the stone ?
Sure Shapton Glass is going to be better but necessary ? Will these take the bur off as well as the old Nortons ?
How will the steel respond to my Spyderco Ultra Fine Triangle ceramic rod ? I am thinking it will raise a bur but not cut it off.

I could be finding out but I want to use the knife edge as it came from Italy first for what I can learn from the factory edge.

Man the engraving / etching is such high quality (I think) really sharp and clear and dark and evenly done. I like it very much . . . indicating a higher level of attention to detail anyway.

so . . . how best to sharpen N690Co ?
Comments ?
Jason to the rescue ?

Well I was going along using my Pattada and . . .
using my Pattada and . . . huh . . . hmmm
and using my Pattada and feeling a little bit . . . I don't know . . . disconnected or kind of like this knife isn't right for me.
But the handle is just what I have been craving to have. It SHOULD be just wonderful and kind of like coming home.
Finally I figured it out.
First off I think I mentioned that I really like the wire clips from Spyderco. The wire clip on the Pattada is a bit heavier gauge wire so that's good; this is kind of a largish knife and a bit of beef in the clip is welcome.
so . . . back to my story
I decided to take the clip off the Pattada. Long ago I took it off my modded Ti Lite IV shown and it is the only way I like the knife. The clip is in the way for me.

I took the clip off the Pattada and BANG ! the handle locked into my grip and the blade end of the knife went where is is supposed to be (the clip was angling the knife in my hand) . . .
and all is peaches and cream ! ! ! ! ! !
Down side is I must carry the knife in my ammo clip pouch that I use for a knife pouch but I do that with most all the knives I really love (shown in the photo) . . . so what else is new.

If you feel kind of dissaway " ~ " about your Pattada I recommend removing the clip,
DO IT !
DO IT NOW !,
and see how it goes.
