Paul Boss will retire from Buck Knives as Chief Heat Treater on June 1st, 2010 .
I read it in Knives Illustrated on Sat. at the news stand . The article contained Mr. Boss's photo therein but no authors name appeared on the page or in the table of contents to credit the writing . Nor, did it give a complete history of his career more like a short synopsis . Has anyone else seen this ? DM

Say it aint so:eek:..........maybe it was a bad dream:(

I'm just the relay boy trying to substaintate the article . But I got to thinking about it and he was heat treating a few years with his own company before going to work for Buck in 1980 . Still, adding up the numbers he's been working there a long time and in the industry longer . DM

I'll have to get a copy. I occasionally pick those magazines up, but have never gotten around to subscribing. I've found that for my purposes the BCCI website and this forum are more informative.

I doubt this will have any impact on the quality of steel from Buck knives from here on. But it will make Bos logo knives more collectable. (Oops, should I have written that? The feeding frenzy is on! LOL :D )

BTW, it's 1 "s" Bos.

I'm with you Wolf . I did subscribe until BCCI came along . I wish I could remember who the right hand man will be to get the Dept. and follow in his shoes . DM
It is Paul Farner, that will take the helm in the heat treating dept..

Has Jeff Hubbard been in that Dept. for 10yrs. ? As it stated the replacement has been under Mr. Boss for about that long . DM

Darn, I wish I'd stayed in the check out line with that magazine . But when your shopping with three other ladies and they veto your plans, its like Custard's last stand . DM

...I'm not sure if Jeff has been in that department that long but he's one person who could well carry on the "Bos" legacy that's for sure. When it comes to quality there are not too many that even come close to Jeff...

Read it in Blade. Looking at his pics, can you believe he's 73? Guy looks a lot younger than that.

Who is the heir apparent to Paul?

I agree, he looked younger than that age to me !! When I saw Mr. Boss in person 2yrs. ago and spoke to him . I thought while walking away, he looks to be about 60, getting close to retirement . DM

last year a number of employees at buck took retirement packages
i have talked with several sense then..
i am surprised he waited tell then to do so and
also surprised it was announced this far ahead..
i am sure he has trained some one...
some place i read his recipe for cooking steel..
was neat but kind of over my head ...
wander if i got it on this machine...?

While I appreciate the confidence, I would fail miserably at heat treating I think. However, it is being left in good hands. , just not mine

Wonder if the knives will still bear his name and mark?

Maybe that's part of the retirement package.....he gets a little extra on the check for that.

Good for him.

How about a Limited Edition BCCI exclusive Paul Bos Signature knife? His favorite fixed blade with his favorite steel? And throw in a Paul Bos 110 Folding Hunter signature knife, to boot?

Very bad news for me.
I like Paul Boss heat treatment, for me heat treatment is half of quality of knife.
Interestingly, how will Buck Company develop in future?

I saw it in Blade magazine last week. July edition. I mentioned it in another thread discussing blade steel.

Anyway, he will continue in an "advisory" role to those that need him to.

No worries.......they will use the same recipe and personnel and Bos will be around in case there are questions.
