Paul Bos Retires

BG,
That was post 1000. I expect a give away:)

Didn't think Paul was that old. I'm sure Buck has a good plan for his transition to retirement.

I just picked up a copy of KI. Taking over Paul Bos's role will be Paul Farner. It's an interesting issue because it covers the SHOT show.

Bummer that someone stole all the Jim Shockey / Cabelas knives that Buck was to show there. And Victorinox with a 32 Gig SAK? I'm not sure I'm ready for these computer knives.

While providing a little background on Frank Buck, Chuck's Brother, Paul told us a little about himself and his history:

Frank was Chucks younger Brother, and he did die in a auto accedent back in 1974. Frank was one of my best friends I met him back in the mid 50!s at a drivein resturant in La Mesa Ca. We were both into Hot Rods and we both liked the same Waitres, But thats an other story. Frank made knives and I was a young heat treater that worked at Star Heat Treat and Fishing Supplies, Thats when I started heat treating knife blades, And met the rest of the Buck Family Al, and Chuck. Its been A friendship ever sence. Frank did make alot of Bowies, I think the last ones he made were in the late 60!s, He made alot for the guys over in Vitnam and he also made me one. It was stollen back in the mid 80!s. Frank was a great guy and a good friend. Paul Bos."

Hope you find it as interesting as I did. It is fascinating to see how intertwined Paul is with Buck Knives history.

Telechronos:):):)

I give free advice......that's about as far as it goes. It's well worth the price.

Maybe on post 25,000 I'll give away a Three-Dotter 112 Finger-Groove. I'm stocking up on them.

:D

Tele, Thanks for the info.. I have five bucks that says them two raced their cars over that waitress . DM ;)

That was going to be my guess, because I have a magazine that had a story on Mr. Bos and the fact that when Buck moved, he moved too. In the article is a picture of Paul and Paul :D It was stated then that he was being groomed to take P.B's place when he retired

I was visiting Paul Bos a few weeks ago. Wolfdog is 100% correct. Paul Farner will take the reigns....

I am pretty sure that a BCCI Paul Bos knife is unlikley due to time constrant however a Paul Bos Limited edition from Buck is in the running I bet and I want one if made like most of you.

I hope Paul is honored in the Knife Guild Hall of Fame. He is in My Knife Hall of fame ;) One heck of a great guy. He love's Chuck Buck like a brother. I was having a blast watching Chuck and Paul discuss my 12 inch ,10 inch and 6 inch prototype BuckMasters. The Storys were great and I an putting them in the book.

For us collectors anything that Paul owned or heat treated will always be worth extra.

:D Paul if you read this may God Bless You,Sallie and your Family on your retirement:D

I wonder how this would be announced, in a catalog supplement? On the website? I'll want to get my hands on one of those, if it is made.

Anything with the Paul Bos stamp will be worth a little extra. I wonder if they will keep that stamp or have a special stamp for Paul Farner?

Hear, hear!

It's still the Bos heat treat and I don't see how it could suddenly become the Farner heat treat if it's the same process.......so, I suspect the stamp stays the same and some knives will still be stamped with the Bos stamp. Value of knives should not change at all.

This would be a good time for someone from Buck to clarify that.

:)

I'll hold knives with a Bos logo made during his tenure at Buck to be worth a little more, to me, if not in monetary value. I don't buy knives to sell.

A definite word on this would be nice. Perhaps they'll modify the logo?

P.S. After all, BG42EDGE, one of your own "selling points" for the 3-dot 110 (granted that you aren't selling) is that the three-dot 110 may have been heat treated by Paul Bos, even though that was earlier in his career and his HT then may not be the same as it is today. ;)

Yes , but do not forget that thousands people worldwide believe Paul Boss had touched exactly their knives.;)

I must admit that the whole concept is vague and amorphous to a great extent.

With the Three-Dotters it is even more lacking in firm qualities since it's based on nothing more solid than popular folklore (although that's common around here).

WILL the process be any different after he leaves? Who knows?

I have to strongly believe that it is such a well-established process that it will stay exactly the same. It's a logical conclusion. However, logic can fail if someone changes the rules on you.
