I'll jump in the mix and throw in an Knives of Alaska featherlight hunter. Carbon fiber scales, D2 blade. Has only been used to cut little bit of paper. I cannot get the damn thing sharp. So the only rule is if you can get it sharp you have to post here so you can tell me how the hell you did it. :D

It takes hair off my arm.
I used sandpaper and a mousepad, took me about 30 minutes. I started on 220 grit, and went to 320, 400, 800, 1000, and 2000.

The knife is awesome, and the sheath keeps it out of my pocket, which in turn leaves my wallet a little easier to access.

Thanks very much Wheeler.

Not one to flick, but it opens fairly easily one handed. Might take it apart and see if there's any gunk in the pivot.

Sounds like I should try some sandpapers of various grits. How does the mousepad factor in?

I've used diamond stones (love them) but never sandpaper. How long does it last before you need to get a new square, etc?

A lot of times when you can't get a knife to sharpen up right, I have found that if I made my sharpening angle more acute it makes a world of difference especially when setting a bevel!

A mousepad will convex the edge. You can put the sandpaper on a hard flat surface, like glass. I've never used diamond stones myself, so I don't know how they'd compare.
Personally, I like sandpaper more than the sharpmaker. Might just be that I've used sandpaper more.
I dont really replace squares often, old ones can be used for polishing.

PIF Re-post

Still available

I have two knives, one a small Winchester folding knife, more of a mail opener really, and a folding utility knife. These are also posted in the PIF#9 thread. Only thing that I ask is that you live in the US. Please just post here that you would like to have either one of these and then send me an email.

Here is what I am offering to anyone living in the United States:

Small Winchester liner lock knife. Not a trophy knife my any means, but good at opening mail.

Also offering this Husky Utility knife. Could use a good cleaning and a new blade.

Good idea jj, things have slowed down a bit since the holiday but if you have an unclaimed offer maybe re-post it now.

You guys are awesome. Still keeping this alive!

I'll have something to put up in the next day or so. Gotta do my part :)

NCCNC will get the Echelon. It will be a couple days till I get it out. Ran into some bad luck and the bonus I was counting on didn't pan out. Once I get it sent I'll maybe have something to offer after that.

I just want to say that the generosity here is awesome, please don't let it die.

I can't remember screen name of of the person who pif'ed me this fixed blade (I know real name, but wont post that)...this was used to help skin my youngest boy's first buck ever. It was a small 4 pointer, but it was probably elk sized in his eyes (and beats what I or my oldest boy got...which was squat). Didn't help get the deer, but it did help me teach him how to dress it quite cleanly :)
I made the lanyard when I got home yesterday, didn't want it boogered up

And to keep it relevant to thread, I'm offering up these cases for an Iphone (came off an Iphone 4S), don't need them now that I have the Galaxy S4. Can claim one or both. Two conditions: Must live in US, and must have offered something in the PIF's (or offer up now).

Congrats to your boy on his first! Still remember mine, and agreed it probably seemed like an elk to him. Cool knife too, looks handmade?

Handmade indeed...Stamped "FOWLER" along spine, was an offering during PIF 8. Oldest still hasn't gotten one (his 3rd year going), so I was trying to balance excitement for YB while not appearing like it was getting rubbed in OB's face (I haven't this or last either...been bad in Upstate PA the past few years). But, to OB's credit, he's inherited my shooting skill, and wins the "Shootout Pool" our group of 12 holds every year (5 bucks per person, 22 bolt action, standing unsupported at 50 yards, 5 shots...tightest group wins the kitty)
the group was smaller than a quarter
(ETA: I don't know why pics keep showing upside-down...doesn't matter how I orient them either)

That's good shooting!

All of PA has been bad, overall, I think. I haven't seen anything for like three years (while deer hunting at least). But it may be where I go.
