Pay it Forward - The Remake: Part 3

I wouldn't trust a weld at the handle for a full tang knife. Defeats the purpose of strength. Especially if you're going to baton. Just my opinion though.

^ He is right. If you have the time, you could try to grind the flat stock to accept the tang and perimeter weld the tang...something like this perhaps:

It is a lot of work to get the full tang look on a skinny blade. Perhaps you should look at picking up a reasonably priced full tang blank like the enzo trapper instead. Just a suggestion.

Ha, you remind me of myself! I welded the handles back on to my 1st few cheap fixed blades too :)

It doesn't really hold up well but is solid enough for knife purposes. After breaking them apart a few times, I moved on to kabar. 1st buy was a tanto 1245, broke that. Moved to a Large Heavy Bowie (1277?), that's ones still going strong. Replaced the tanto with a 1247 Warthog (my favorite knife) and don't beat on if I can help it, still going strong. And picked up a couple of Beckers to try to put them out of commission.

I've always wanted to test out a Becker to see if they deserve their cult like following. Sounds like you have it covered.

RemyKaze:
That's a good thought. I'm mostly just doing it to see if I can, though.

I think I'll try something simmilar to what you suggested. I'll probally grind the tang into a square, then inlay it into the new tang. Thanks a lot for the idea!

I received my first becker and first mora thanks to a participant in these threads (thanks again NYOutdoors!), i have been thoroughly impressed with both :)

I have an Izula II. Would you say the Becker Necker handles are comfortable enough, or should I get an Eskabar? I've been looking hard at the D2 version.

Remy, you really can't go wrong with either one. Izullas, Becker 11, 14 or 24. I like them all. I'm hoping to get a 24 here soon. I make my own scales for them.

Any pics of those? Custom scales might sway me on that 24.

Not sure if the mora is a robust model or not, there was no packaging.

I like the becker 11 maybe a little more than an smaller izula, i put some scales on it and i like the way it feels a little better. Also i like the bottle opener. Probably like it about equal to the longer handled izula
