PayPal dispute resolution - at the speed of evolution

I just went through my first dispute resolution with PayPal. It was the first one and I've been using them for 8 or 9 years, so keep this in context. The buyer in Germany (PM me if you want one for your black list) disputed the transaction because he hadn't received the item as fast as he though he should. The parcel arrived in Germany that same day (he had the tracking info) but he placed the item on hold at his request at the post office and refused to withdraw the dispute. PayPal had shipping proof within hours of the dispute - proof of customer requested hold within 48 hours - and proof of delivery about a week and a half later when the customer finally picked it up.

The whole time, PayPal had tracking numbers and scans of status. They finally resolved it today - about 4 weeks after getting proof from us.

I'm P.O.'ed at the customer, but that happens. PayPal froze my funds instantly and took a very long time to resolve the matter. Has anyone else had similar experiences? This has certainly tainted our appetite for international transactions and that is sad. :(

Yep, sounds like Paypal. Same MO, same actions and results.

Pretty much same client actions, too.

Paypal has its place, but it keeps alienating more and more people too.

Paypal is part of that evilbay cooperation. What do you expect. What can you do, the masses want to use it and so most I

I am fearful of accepting Paypal payments, and when I do there will always be at minimum a tracking number, no exceptions.

Been there done that. I always make sure that my ebay transactions are done via my Visa card. In this way Visa will credit me and sort the crap out on their end. At least this is what happened on the one and only fraud I came across. That whole Ebay and Squaretrade business is garbage.

Whether or not Visa still does this I don't know. Good Luck!!

This was your first after that many years and there would not have been one if NOT for the customer having a problem.
So I would say not really PayPals fault?

I have used them a few years now and have NOT had a single problem.

And hope I never do.....

You should post the customers name in the Good - Bad & Ugly? maybe?

I think what's a little disturbing is the way in which Paypal settled the dispute. In this case even though Knifemaker.ca had done nothing wrong, and provided proof, his funds were still frozen long enough to seriously hamper his business.
Is this typical? Does it usually take so long or were they waiting for more information (from either buyer or seller)?

One time, shipping something to Canada, Paypal thought that the funds sent to me were fraudulent, so they locked those dollars. I provided tracking numbers proving I delivered the item to the paypal account's address. Sent emails for over a week and they weren't doing anything. Called them up, and then within 5 minutes, it was settled.

Yes, the dispute was settled in my favor and that's good. My problem with the buyer came when the package arrived at his local post office and he placed it on hold - refusing to lift the dispute.

My problem with PayPal was that it took almost a month to resolve when they had proof of what the buyer was doing in several forms. They had full tracking and status information and weeks later sent an email asking for full tracking and status information via fax.

PayPal actually asked for a copy of the shipping label.......

Rant mode off. By the way, I'm not aware of the buyer being a member here - and we have other valued customers from Germany and all over the world. I'm going to stay focussed on those - and suspicious of PayPal seller protection.

Thanks All

Rob!

There's a phone number???? Tell!...

That sucks, their are people out there that use palpay that are honest. Sounds like this guy in germany was trying to rip you off because the postal service was slow and he got pissed at you instead of the postal service. Paypal were being overly cautious even though you supplied them with everything they needed.

To find it, just go to Contact Us at the bottom of the page, then Call Us, then it's there.

You will get a poorly-trained, polite, but ultimately very unhelpful person in India -- at least that's what I gotten when I've called.

Well I was going to order from you using paypal, but now I will just use one of the guys credit cards from work to make the order. There are a couple of them that I have turned on to your site and want to add to my order, so just to make things easier for you I will go that way. I just have to wait for either my WCB check or the first check from work now that I am back to work. really sad, I was off work for a month due to a work related injury and got the doctors ok to start back on friday and I still haven't been payed for my time off by WCB. Good thing my landlord is a riding buddy and relys on me to do the mainenance on his bikes and get him his parts

Rob I was scammed on ebay big time it was a flawless method used by the ebayer. This is how the scam went and how paypal reacted. I bought a item 100 bucks off a women she said she was selling it for a friend then once i bought it had her common law husband asked if I pay her and she used his paypal account. He was ban from ebay for fraud already but paypal doesnt do sqwatt. This is the catch she was ban from selling on ebay for 30 day he was ban from ebay for 30 days . paypal would not refund my money because the person I paid did not sell me anything so he did no wrong and paypal gave him a warning nothing more. Its a real joke ebay /paypal makes up there own rules but in light rob you have just cause to take them to small claims court . With knowing the law I would look into it maybee they will change some policies if enough people acted . Lastly thanks for the speedy return on my knives it was 5 days from the time I shipped my knives to rob he then heat treated them and i recieved them back . kellyw yup 5 days
