PayPal Fees

I believe folks should use the standard payment option to give themselves full protection when they buy my knives. I have no intention of defrauding a customer, but it's only good practice for them to make sure they are covered. I am not a huge paypal fan, but they are the easiest and fastest way for me to get paid for a knife I sell online and generally result in the fastest shipping since there is no delay for me to receive a check and wait for it to clear. I do not ship anything until I know the payment is complete so PP gives them extra buyer protection, fastest payment, fastest shipping while getting me paid efficiently and quickly.

I do not expect a customer to pay the fee. *I* am paying any involved fee for the service PP is providing me. I am the seller. Even though the buyer is the one getting the most benefits it is a service for the seller, just like a shop accepting credit and debit cards. I'm eating that small fee to make life easier for customers in the hope that it will improve sales. That's not to say I don't appreciate it when a customer tacks on a percent or two but I don't expect it and I don't factor the fee into my pricing. I set prices based on the cash transaction.

I do understand the issue for folks like Guyon and others who sell more expensive knives. I will probably do something similar. It's not an extra charge for PP, it's a discount for cash or cash equivalent. At my current prices the fee is minimal so I just treat it like any other incidental cost of doing business like office supplies.

I guess when it comes down to it, some people seem to think that a Service provider should not be compensated for a convenient service. I do not doubt that if the roles were reversed, these same people would not be to happy about others circumventing paying fees owed to them. Sometimes it seems that the standards we hold our selves too, vaporize when money is involved, and somehow they can rationalize breaking an agreement which they voluntarily entered into. Kind of sad really.....
Are you seriously only now realizing that? This has been in effect in business for over the last 70+ years.

I quit listing the fees as such because people get so worked up about them and because it's against the PayPal TOS. However, it's money out of my pocket, and it's significant on a $500+ knife, so I just tack on 3.5% in the total price. When the rare individual tells me s/he would like to pay via USPS MO, s/he gets a nice little surprise discount.

 That is the easy/best way to deal with it.

The fees aren't the buyer's fees. When I sell on eBay I have to pay the fees.
Why the people selling outside of eBay ever got the idea the buyer should pay THEIR fees I can't understand. I think people that charge the buyer are petty and tight. I'd never buy anything from them.
i agree itz not my fee the buyer...

 for this philosophy. That's the way to do business IMO
