Punishment has to fit the crime. Theft is abominable but only deserving of death if the natural outcome of the theft is such that innocent people would die as a direct result.

Agreed ... but if the lowlifes stealing have no means to repay - should honest taxpayers be held accountable to house and feed, provide medical and further education for them - "free of charge" -when the majority of honest taxpayer's themselves are not able to receive those luxuries?

Not sure about in Canada but in my area of the US, Dayton OH, there is not a day that goes by the local news does not broadcast a story about how family member was mistreated by law enforcement that detained the person for committing a crime. It's sickening.

Without action there would not be reaction people! They were the cause of the initial response - law enforcement did not respond just because they were good law abiding citizens. Enough of my rant.

To all law enforcement personnel out there - THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!

Agreed, much respect for law enforcement.

My whole point was that criminals should have to be forced to not only subsidize their own incarceration through labor but generate a surplus above that for the benefit of society.

I don’t know what that would look like in our present society. But in principle it’s what I think is right.
