Paypal holding a payment

I just saw a couple of days ago that ebay is going to be shifting from paypal to some European based company, phasing out paypal over time. Didn't have a clear reason why the shift. Hhhmmm,,, ebay created paypal, spins off paypal and now cuts the ties? Weird.
Ebay did not create PayPal. After PP went public they bought them, and back in '15 they spun them off into an independent corporation (still a subsidiary of eBay?).

Sounds like simple customer protection to me; which is first for paypal. Provide proof that you delivered and there's no problem.

Just as an aside; the same thing happened to me recently. I recently started a PayPal after many years of not using them. Long story short; I sold an item (a nice set of pots and pans, skillets etc.) and used G&S. My buyer showed as a "verified" account on my end (I am verified too) and PayPal put a hold on my funds. I called but they were not very helpful.

I said, "Ok" and went on with the transaction. I made my shipping label through Paypal and shipped the item USPS. I plugged in the tracking number, and about 24 hours after the package's status said "Delivered" on USPS's website, the funds were released, no problem, no explanation from them, no email saying they were available, nothing.

I ended up calling again, and this time I received a better answer, or at least one that was plausible. I was told that since I am a "new seller," and do not have a long "seller history," they held the funds "to make sure the transaction went smoothly." Bottom line: I was told that when I have 5 good sales-- no disputes, claims, or mess-ups--they would not hold future payments. Fast forward a couple dozen "good sales" later, and I have not had that problem again.

I'm still learning the various nuances of PayPal, but so far it has been a solid platform to buy and sell.
There are definitely some policies of theirs that I do not agree with but it is a very convenient way to transact online.

Not being able to create a business account (mandatory for me to make a single sell VIA G&S) is a problem for me. See how our experience differs?

Their excuse is baloney, I have been with them the better portion of a decade. Never a single dispute, complaint, issue, nothing. Nada.

They held my funds and only upon me escalating it several times did I get a result. Truth is I don't know why it happened out of the blue.

Yeah, that really doesn't surprise me, sadly. The unsettling fact is that some of their behavior seems to be perfectly arbitrary. When they told me that excuse, I accepted it because I had to, otherwise my money would be in digital limbo. I *did* mention to the rep on the phone that I was surprised they would put a hold on the money *before* there was an issue...it was met with a pushed out giggle and then silence...

We give them a LOT, if you think about it (social security, bank account, phone number, credit card in some cases) I would rather they leave things alone until an issue crops up (if an issue crops up). Interfere if you need to resolve an issue, not just to give heartburn to your members.

The logic was lost to me because they held my transaction payment, yet when I printed my shipping label, the money to pay for it was taken from that very payment:confused:o_O

My issue was small in comparison to what they did to you. I wish they would have given you some kind of reason for their actions. As I said before, you should not have had to fight with them and escalate the process just to get your own money! (Especially since you did nothing wrong)
