Paypal the .....

paypal?......used to use them.....they are ok if they dont make an error but if they do then good luck getting it fixed promptly..in my personal experience their customer service sucked before they were owned by ebay and i dont expect their service to get much better as ebay's customer service has not been historically good nor caring....dont use them anymore after my nightmare with which i wont bore you with long winded details but i for one am one of the ones who got screwed by them.....you have much more recourse using postal money orders than paypal....f@ck over someone with a postal money order being involved and you are commiting a federal crime or crimes and they do take it seriuosly

who has a problem calling paypal? i've called several times. the ph# is listed on the site and the back of your paypal debit card if you have one.

Just thought I'd chime in here not as a Pay Pal defender but as a customer that has used the service literally hundreds of times over the years. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones because I have never had a problem with them. Not one single one. I have never called them but have e-mailed them on a couple of occasions and they have responded quickly.

For me they provide an extremely valuable service. They have done me right so far and until someone lets me know who has better/cheaper service, I'll continue to use them.

I have alwayed liked Paypal and have had no problems with them. I frequently transfer money out of my paypal account into my bank without incident. Since Ebay took control I received a phone call regarding one of my transactions. They asked if I had received the merchandise (knife) I had paid for. Why they called I'll never know. I do know I was impressed with the personal attention though.

Well, I am in a dispute with another paypal member, bought something and he didn't ship it , at least not to here. As ususal, they are bog slow and don't really tell either side any more than they feel either side has a need to know. More than likely if I win this dispute I will stop drop them and go back to mailing money orders. Tired of annoying pop up ad when all I want to do is access my account, paying $ to get $ and not really that confident of their perceived ability to correct situations. Now this is scary, paypal agreed with what I had to say and I got my money back from the seller. Still doesn't mean I am a fan of their service.

They have a new scam, you buy an item for oh, say $450, they try to sell you some sort of buyer's insurance for said item. I declined it, returned the item to seller and their customer service rep told me "We don't get involved in quality of merchandise issues, you have to work it out with the seller." Direct quote, by the way. Fortunately for me my credit card company did not take the same approach. I received a rude phone call from the seller and less than 3 days later an e-mail stating my money has been refunded. No thanks to paypal. That is it for me, account will close upon receipt of last item purchased through paypal and I will go back to money orders. I will not miss losing 2.9% of sales funds for such "wonderful" customer service. :rolleyes: :barf: :eek:

Pay Pal: Love 'em, use 'em, always have, always will! HUNDREDS of transactions, not ONE problem.

A great service,until there is a problem.Not exactly a very fuzzy,wuzzy secure feeling inside during a transaction.Lots of horror stories,but stupidly alot of us still use the service.

I won't be, once the last few transactions I have done are successfully concluded. Will download over 2.5 years of stuff onto disks and quit. Had I not used a credit card, the fact that I did not opt for "insurance" would have cost me over $400 in the form of an item I didn't like and it came from a verified, premium member. Will they continue to be the bill gates of internet payments, probably. Will they fund their bs with my money any more? NO

Ebay = sucks.
Paypal = sucks.
Ebay + Paypal = sucks alot.

Ebay favors whomever pays the fees in terms of dispute resolution. So, if you aren't paying the fees, then it sucks to be you. It's not real easy to find contact information for ebay when things start to get bad.

Paypal offers no real protection, and their customer service sucks. What else needs to be said.

I have never had a problem with them either. I even got a courtesy phone call one to see if a certain transaction went smoothly. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

PayPal is simple my bank account. I have a debit card thru them I can use as a credit card with a $4000 limit and use it at the ATM with a $400 limit. I use it to shop online, at the grocery store, even to order a pizza. I accept payments on Ebay with it and transfer funds from my bank account with it as well. I am alittle paranoid that something bad will happen. Just last night was my first problem occured. Someone that I sold a sword to back in October disputed the charge with there credit card agency. PayPal seized the funds out of my account, but lucky I had everything that I needed to meet PayPals seller protection program. Glad I keep those old tracking numbers:D The whole deal is under investigation now and it better work out in my favor:mad: But I am definatly a believer in PayPal so far. Had my account 2 years and even use it to do someone online gambling:D I will let you guys know how this recent event turns out

TheBadGuy, good to see you are doing okay. Now for the bad news, your problem is not with paypal, it is with the other person's credit card company. I just went through all that and it did work out in my favor. Unfortunately I was the buyer, not the seller. The primary reason I am dumping paypal is that they have an "ebay-ish" knack of dodging any and all responsibility for anything connected to large chunks of money. With the fact that they were hoovering up almost 3% of my incoming funds, I found that sort of "customer" servivce to be unacceptable and unamusing. Different credit card outfits have different terms for how long the card holder can take to change her/his mind about a purchase and that can really screw a seller's bank account up.
If I am telling you a bunch of stuff you already know, my apologies.
CarlHK - out.

Yeah, Pay Pal is a real bummer! I just wish it could be as "trouble-free" and smooth as some of the dealings with SOME of our resident knifemakers! Yeah, let's veto it! ;)

I used paypal a few dozen times.

Got burned on one transaction as a buyer. Seller didn't ship. Paypal didn't do anything to recover the funds. Learned that I should always link up to a credit card for fraud protection.

Premium membership is worthless, rate is too high. I have it now and it needs to be dumbed down.

I think I am going to do the dedicated paypal bank account. I am sure I can find a no minimum balance, totally free checking account somewhere.

Basic membership is worth having, that way if you need to zap money fast or recieve it, you can do it.

If you have time, buy the MO. More hassle, a few bucks cheaper on lower cost items.

This is amazing. I've used paypal for years and never had a problem with them. I wasn't dumb enough to give them my bank account number though. If the day ever comes where they demand that for membership I'll just quit but till then I'll stay with them. They've never taken more than 5-7 days to send me a check when I requested it and any payments I made or recieved were handled correctly. I wonder how much of the paypal horror stories are just bs that was passed on so many times folks started believing it.

I am sure some of the stories are not true but there are a lot of fed up people at www.paypalsucks.com . There are numerous cases where people have had problems with paypal, not just passed along stories of other people's problems.

Whether all the stories are true or not, it's enough to scare me off. I've got paypal.com open in another window right now. Was in the process of opening an account to facilitate an international deal with another forumite, and remembered seeing this thread title. Thought I'd see what you guys had to say.
I'm closing the window:(

OwenM, someday you may thank me. I used paypal for over 2 years but when push came to shove they were no help whatsoever. Situation involved rapidly deteriorating tone of e-mails and so forth. Their answer was contact the seller. Hello, that is what I was doing and it was not doing any good to do so. Thank god for credit card companies (for once). The entire tone of seller's e-mails changed overnight. Literally.
