Ira Spring was a heroic mountaineer and photographer in the 1930s and 40's. His autobiography is called, "An Ice-axe, a camera and a Jar of Peanut Butter".

Ira would hike around Mt. Rainier with a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter for food and be out for weeks. That's usually all he had to eat while hiking and taking photos carrying an 8"x10" format camera and glass plates.

Must have great nutritional value ;)
 
It could get old pretty quickly but hunger has a way of getting rid of that outlook as well. :)

I have some Mainstay Rations and some of the chocolate malted survival tablets as well. Interesting, I'd hate to eat 12 of them a day to survive, might have wished you didn't! :D

I want to try some Datrex as well.
 
I've been munching on a peanut butter Clif Bar at work the last few days. Eating about 1/4 of a bar (to use the term loosely, more like a globule) with some coffee and water goes a long way in the morning.

Sadly I've only been able to find the peanut butter, the chocolate and the peanut butter and choclolate combo Clif Bars.

I haven't checked the dreaded wal mart though..
 
Along with fats and proteins, for really hard work -your muscles need carbs. Peanut butter has the first two handled.
 
I did not mean to say that it has no carbs, but in a situation where you are working really hard and expending large amounts of energy, more carbs are beneficial.

Just take a 3/4 full jar of peanut butter, fill it the rest of the way with honey, and stir. Best damn spread there is.

I spread that on toast every morning for breakfast. I mean I'll eat something else for a day or two, and have a craving for PB & honey.
 
You have to try peanut butter and maple syrup. It tastes like the old Bit-O-Honey candy bars. I like to mix PB,honey,cinn.,ginger,royal honey, local bee pollen and vegamite. Makes a really good energy spread but be careful of the vegamite a little goes a long way. If you eat too much it might make you shake like a dog $h1tn peach seeds!

Of course taste is subjective but you may find these bars alittle more tasty. I sure do.

I also opt to make my own protein bars in the oven so I can better control the Ratio of fat/carbs and protein.

For Bulking:

MagicPunt's MRBs (Meal Replacement Bars):

Combine in large mixing bowl:

3 Cups Oatmeal
1/2 Cup Natural Peanut butter
1 cup Skim Milk
4 Scoops Protein Powder
dash of cinnamon

Mix until a sticky batter is formed (may take a few minutes)

use a large spoon to spread out the mix into the bottom of a Pam-sprayed glass or metal cooking tray (spread until even)

top with 4-8 packets splenda

put in the fridge overnight and cut into 8 equal bars that yield:

11g fat (good monounsaturated fats)
26g carbs
21g protein

285 calories

not mine- but bodybuilding.com has a large number of different recipes within its site.

is THAT why I caught the mr squeezing honey into his peanut butter sandwich this morning?

perhaps I'll try this. i can't stand peanut butter. maybe this will make it NOT suck.

(but that makes an excellent sauce with a grilled banana, but add a bit of habanero powder ...)
 
LK I like they way you think! grilled banana, but add a bit of habanero powder. Mmmm I think I will try that tomorrow AM. I have some ground Habanero powder from New Mex. it is 5X hot- a little dab will do ya! I can send you some if you wish.
