MOP can be very beautiful but I don't keep one around long. I carry and use my knives and MOP always seems a little on the fragile side to me.

In my opinion mother of pearl , abalone etc are beautiful materials that when paired with the other materials of the knife enhance it greatly . But it can look cheap and if the scales are not perfect can draw your eye straight to any faults and detract from the rest of the piece .
It can also go the other way if there is too much embellishment they can look gaudy . But put together right I think your hard pressed to find another material as attractive .

When it comes to Shaw's knives, is there a good source for value appraisal? Thank you!

MOP is one of my favorite cover materials and I need a fix every now and then. I haven’t added much to the pearl collection lately, but I had this one out today for an inspection and maintenance wax. Gold lipped Case Cheetah Cub that my wife ordered from Shepard Hills as a Christmas gift in 2005.
