I’ve been on here over 10 years and I have never backed out of a transaction I have committed to. I listed several knives today and two different people went through the process and then committed to sending payments through pay apps and then and then cancel the transaction. One said he didn’t check his bank account and the other claims his wife was against the purchase. If you’re going to get on here And commit to purchasing knives, check your finances and check in with your wife before you commit. I’ve enjoyed this form over the years and I hope this behavior isn’t becoming the norm. Thank you, Blade forms.

That’s lame for sure! Had similar experiences myself as I’m sure many others have too. Sucks too because there isn’t much recourse to inhibit the behavior. Usually I just add them to the ignore list and move on.

Your cases are the best case scenerio of the situation. They at least let you know that they were out. More often than not they just disapear and leave you hanging.
It certainly seems to be happening more often, but in the end , if someone doesn't really want the knife, I am fine with letting them out(not that I really have a choice-can't force anyone to buy). I just wish they would let me know.

Thats what happens when Facebook bros and reddit dudes come over to a real knife forum.
Yes. This seems to be yahoos who joined in the last 5 years. The old guard would never do that shit.

Just recently I had a bunch of of knives up for sale and needed to hit a certain monetary amount. I hit the amount but forgot to withdraw one last blade I had for sale.

A guy claimed it and I followed through. Because that’s what men do. It completed a collection he had going, and I found another of the same knife that had the handle I originally wanted, so it came out to the good. Karma has a way of coming around.

Guys lately are playing big boy games with other big boys dealing for big boy knives, but find out their balls are in their wives’ purses right at the last second.

While it's annoying, it may be better that flakey unreliable buyers back out before given a chance to complicate the hell out of a sale, by complaining later on and trying to return the purchase.

I was gonna say this. Very annoying, but could be worse. Thankfully I haven't noticed this issue very often, although I don't buy/sell as much as some others.

I kinda figure about 10% maybe a little more or so who have orders with me back out.
It's often about impulse control.
Knife lust is kinda spontaneous, and the way I make is unfortunately too slow. If too many months go by, it gets forgotten. Maybe the thrill left? Often times Life happens.

I'll contact them when I'm about to put handles on it, to see if their preference has changed. We can make little changes then.

That's when they let me know they can't.
So far it's been ok, usually someone else jumps on the opportunity to get one quicker.
But it's still a little frustrating. But I understand.
I wish them well and better times.

I was all set to post, but I changed my mind...

☺️

Honestly, I personally, and we collectively, get it. Most of us have had an occasion or two like this. Frustrating, but if you haven't lost money, it could certainly be worse.

We have, from time to time, (I know I have), admonished folks who have a history of such and let them know where the exit signs are.

Sometimes the seller can be the committed party that backs out, ......

.......almost equally frustrating on the other end of the transaction, are when those desirable knives posted for sale, after generating interest, are then redacted by the seller..... "decided to keep".

Granted, there are no finances at risk, but Dang, the buyer can sure be disappointed! 😩

The worst one I had was on here. I had a “buyer” pay for a knife and when I had already shipped it decided they didn’t want it because they had been watching YouTube reviews after buying it and decided they didn’t like it after all.

I refer to these low-integrity betas as "tik-tok knaf hipsters." The same type of dudes that proclaim Magnacut is the only steel they'll ever buy, but only ever use their knives for slicing open their wives' boyfriends' condom wrappers, piercing their pouches of ethically-sourced agave nectar, or cutting their well-done Wagyu ribeyes.

It doesn’t bother me, however, just be honest with me. Especially if it’s because you got a better deal.

Speaking as one new guy I promise we aren't all dim-witted reddit bros. There do seem to be a lot of them out in the world, come to think of it. Try not to let those ass hats ruin it for the men who still retain possession of their testicles.
Thanks,
John

I personally think reddit is pretty far superior just because it keeps price history and let's be real everyone is much more friendly with prices. You can also comment on someone being overpriced there. Can't do that here and because of the combination of not allowing commentary on price and deleting old prices, low information people get screwed here. Deleting price history here just helps scalpers. This place will eventually go the way of the dodo

We're still here after all the rumors of our demise. Could things be better, sure. That's true of any forum or endeavor.

"Low information people" should, like anyone else, do their due diligence. Any consumer that makes purchases without doing their homework first only has themself to blame.

Our job is to rein in the scammers and thieves...the site owner sets the parameters regarding what is or isn't kosher within the Exchange.

I'm not excited for the eventual demise. I like it here fine, but the velocity of trades is much lower here. Not hard to see where the younger users are going. Since they're the future of the hobby I'm making an inference.

If you want people to do their due diligence, then why the lack of pricing transparency? It's the only area of knife information in which the platform is lacking. The model of erasing price data benefits only sellers making this a worse place to buy. Selling here is fine though because most prices here are inflated.

If you can wait to sell it, sell it here. If you can't, reddit.

I don't understand people who back out of transactions. Are you so undecided about your life that you don't even know what you want??

That said for me as long as money hasn't changed hands it's not a big deal.

The problems start when money has changed hands and the buyer backs out. Now it's complicated with both parties exposed in various ways.

Looking at your history here, it looks like you're here primarily for the Exchange...buying and selling.

Buying and selling is an adjunct to the "raison d'être" of these forums, which is knife related discussion held among a community of like-minded individuals. That has always been the case. (In other words, the Exchange was never the primary reason why these forums were created.)

We've known all along that there are alternatives for those whose main interest is buying and selling rather than participating in what actually sets us apart from other venues. And to those whose interest lies in that direction, more power to them.
