People backing out after committing!

Looking at your history here, it looks like you're here primarily for the Exchange...buying and selling.

Buying and selling is an adjunct to the "raison d'être" of these forums, which is knife related discussion held among a community of like-minded individuals. That has always been the case. (In other words, the Exchange was never the primary reason why these forums were created.)

We've known all along that there are alternatives for those whose main interest is buying and selling rather than participating in what actually sets us apart from other venues. And to those whose interest lies in that direction, more power to them.
I'm glad you pointed out that I mainly use the Exchange because that shows that I have experience with the multitude of rulesets employed over the years. It follows that since I have used the system, I can provide educated comments. This bolsters my claim, so I appreciate that.

For many folks the Exchange carries the highest stakes. There's no risk in discussing metallurgy, lock mechanisms, or what have you. There is inherent risk when funds are exchanged. Putting less emphasis on a high stakes area of the forum because it's not the raison d'être seems like a poor practice.

Example: You guys did not put systems in place to stop many people from being scammed. You didnt require timestamp even though many people suggested it to admins and moderators before. When I got scammed, I told you guys to institute timestamps probably 3-4 months before they were rolled out. Look where we are now. It's clear that yall were less than able to deal with scamming and then added timestamps.

Timestamps help right the ship, maybe you'll go the rest of way to fix things. YMMV

The only person that can make changes to the system is the site owner, Spark Spark

Our job, (the four super mods), is to do the best job we can of maintaining the integrity of the site, and protecting the members within the limits established by the site owner. (A job we volunteer many hours per day, week, month and year doing. Some of us for more than 25 years.)

We cannot make changes to, or regarding the software settings under any circumstances, or unilaterally create rules without the approval of the site owner.

What we can do is edit, move or remove posts, and / or warn or ban members whose behavior merits action being taken.

We don't put less emphasis on the safety of our members in the Exchange. If you had any real idea of how many people we have protected from being scammed, and how many scammers have been stopped proactively, (and the hours devoted in doing so), you probably wouldn't be quite so snarky.

YMMV.

This thread was initiated about members backing out of commitments. That matter has been addressed above. I have advised Mr. Nguyen to contact the site owner via Tech Support or DM with his suggestions regarding potential improvements...as any changes to be made site wide or to the Exchange are at his discretion.

I'm not sure how exactly we can "fix" things that are outside our control. We cannot fool proof things when we never have possession of the knives and some people refuse to use common sense like only using Direct Messaging. We do what we can but it's on buyers and sellers to show due diligence. People still get scammed on eBay despite all the protections there fyi.

Anyhow, if your only purpose here is to use the Exchange, then clearly you find value. I appreciate your support
