I've got an old beater BK2 if you beat on it for awhile. It's been in my knife tote for years without handles. probably needs an edge put on it.

How do the standard handles hold up? Seems a lot of people upgrade to the micarta, however I do see there are other handles available. I might look into the options, no harm in knowing what is available!
And how are the factory edges on these knives? I don't mind sharpening, but I know some makes are better than others when it comes to sharpening. Of course that was one reason i didnt like the Ontario SP1. The edge was terrible, and for at least 3 inches going to the tip it wasnt even sharpened. It was still flat, like it had just been kissed on a grinding belt/wheel. Maybe I should have kept it, would have let me practice my sharpening skills!

The 2 was my first Becker 
and for a 1/4” hunk it will hold its own and then some if you are willing 
But ether will serve you well
I gave my 10 a face lift to make it look more to my liking. It’sr fun to personalize em
The only problem with your first Becker it leads to all the others just to see which one will stand out as your favorite

Because i dont need a bk10. Only one that i would buy is one that is less common. Or at least, a good deal on one would give me a reason that i need.

The Cam 10 has a higher grind than the KA-BAR. I would like to have a Cam 10 for that reason myself

When I bought my camm. version, kabar hadn't started making the 10 yet.
I shy away from the camm stuff when there's a current version from kabar available.
I've personally seen 2 camm bk 9's break during use that shouldn't have broken them.

Youll see them often enough with an outrageous price tag. If you persevere, youll find one thats not too terribly priced. But by no means cheap.

I can see people having more issue with their bk9s breaking than a bk10 at least. I do recall hearing of inconsistent heat treat with the cams also. Thanks for the warning about them.

I think the roll stamp process caused stress cracks in some of the knives. I believe it’s happened to a few roll stamped KA-BAR’s and probably other Knife companies as well. Probably why we now have laser etching.

Well, I did it. Sold a knife, haven't even shipped it yet but couldn't wait and ordered a bk2. Was talking to the wife and said it's almost been 3 years since I've stopped smoking, and maybe I should get myself a present (plus I quit smoking 2 days before my birthday).

Thank you! I hate that I didn't get it a few weeks ago while me and my father in law were tearing out trees and old fence in the back yard. Sure he used a backhoe to tear them down, and we used a chain saw to cut them up, but it would have been fun to keep some of the wood to test the knife on!
I'm sure I'll be able to find somewhere to have some fun with it. Maybe I can do some meal prep in the kitchen... Sure I have kitchen knives but I've got to do some tests, right?

Congrats on quitting! Its been 13 years myself. All this time i didnt know i could celebrate each year with a knife. Ive got A lot of catching up to do! I usually tell my wife, “its been like 3 whole weeks... well except for that other knife, but that doesnt really count”
