People who have only one good knife

Something different from what is said in the opening post, but I also am the one
who carries only one blade.

As I'm so crazy about knives, I made one for myself.
It's the only blade I carry.

I agree, I have way to many knives, I could be happy with three or four but at this point it would be difficult to choose.

Back before there was an internet or BladeForums and when I lived in the woods or on the water, I carried a Buck Stockman. In my ignorance I used it to dress deer, squirrels and rabbits. It was also used to clean fish, cut line, dig out splinters and other various camp chores. I kept it shaving sharp not knowing at the time that it had inferior steel and would not hold an edge. (Opinions of others that I have read) I still have that knife, although it now mostly serves nightstand duty.

I didn't have only one knife since I was very young.

My first was my Boy Scout knife.

Soon thereafter, a Buck 110 was added.

For 20 years or so, before I came here, I was happy carrying the Buck 110 every day, and adding an Estwing hatchet and Ka-Bar USMC for woods forays.

I carried my SAK Spartan for a long time, until it was replaced by my mora #1. Then I started toting a whole lot of steel wherever I went. That got old, so in the last 6 months or so I have gone back to pretty much just carrying one knife. The last couple of months it's been a small fixed blade with a 2" blade made from 1/16" A2 with scrap maple scales. Before that it was a Case large Stockman, then a 4" blade nordic style knife, then a large trapper.

My dad is not a knife guy, but he occasionally carries a Gerber multitool I gave him. He also has a tiny two bladed slipjoint I got at a gas station that I gave him one weekend we were working together and I expected he would need to be cutting tape and string and things. He seems very pleased with both.

Me too, I have a dozen saks alone, and most never get opened. I often give knives as gifts, so if I keep that up I may get it down to a bare bones collection.

Anyone I know with one knife usually has a chinese/paskistani piece of junk, often a rip off of a buck 110. I am usually unable to convince them to get a nice sak or spyderco for some reason, they consider them ""cheap looking."

My Dad used an old redbone case stockman for decades. It has a severe Patina on the blades and thinner blades due to much use and sharpening over the years. The Knife is beautiful from the natural worn look it obtained over time.

Heck, for the longest time I didn't even carry a knife. How bout that! Now I EDC a SAK Farmer. It's funny, the cheapest knife I own is the one that gets the most use.:D

My Grandfather carried a Boker Stockman, used it for everything. My Dad carries an Uncle Henry lockback, that I gave him 29 years ago.

Cody Lundin has used the same Mora for something like 15 years now. Never seen anybody wield a knife as good as he does and he can make it shaving sharp. He is not a knife nut, he just knows to keep it simple and what works. I admire him for that.

Mostly because of my working lifestyle, lots of travel and living out of a suitcase, I am down to one primary knife that is used for about everything. Although I really like the buck folders, the Meyerchin folding rigging knife with marlingspike has become my preference.

I've got a fair few knives and that's because like everybody else in this forum I like knives a lot and don't have a sense of perspective!

I can appreciate that one very good knife that suits you totally WOULD be nice to have, but, where is it.....?

I do use and carry a Queen Cutlery Teardrop Liner Lock in Amber bone a great deal.It looks very decent, has a reasonable lock up and slices excellently. But, it has numerous competitors fixed and folding, sigh!

I've got an old schrade ol' timer, that sorta dissappears and reappears, that was my favorite for quite some time.. The next was my buck vanguards(4 of them), that have been with me for well over 15 yrs, and are still among my faves..

My brother has had the same Case Mako lockback on his belt for over 20 years. I would guess he uses it almost every day too.

what about the old case sod buster or the buck 500, that's what I carried for a while!!!!!

I had forgotten all about the Sodbusters, my brother and I both carried those during my early teen years when we were trapping a lot. Skinned a lot pelts with them, I always wished for a fixed blade Sodbuster back then.

My grandfather always had a 3 blade stockman, or a Barlow on him. My dad has been carrying an Old Timer Muskrat pattern for longer than I can remember!

My EDC has been the same for about 7 years, Kershaw Blackout and CRK&T M16-03. I've been considering a switch lately though! ;) -Matt-

I have a drawer full of knives that are great knives. A couple that come to
mind are my NWA's and my Camp Tramp. They are excellent when it comes to
doing what I want to do.

Unfortunately, they cost me several hundreds of dollars each, and although I've
used them a bit, I take a Kabar Army fixed blade and a Spyderco Mini Manix
with me when I go onto the trail. The combined cost of the Kabar and Spydie
was far short of the cost of my Camp Tramp.

So far, the Kabar/Manix combo have been able to handle anything I've thrown
at them.

My dad carried a Marbles Woodcraft fixed blade and a Remington 3 blade
Stockman with him. Never saw him with anything else.

Also saw him skin several moose with those two knives.
Guess he didn't know that specialty skinning knives were needed for
that chore.

I know people who have had a Buck 110 as their only knife and don't understand the point of having any other knife. It is really useless to try and tell them otherwise, also, so I let them be. Besides, it has gotten them this far.

Both my dad and my older brother get by with a Kershaw. They aren't really doing any intense woods chores with them though. MY grandpa, as far as i know, is still getting by with just a CAse Peanut that I picked out for him.
