Percentage of people that carry a knife and also have sharpening skills ?

My Dad taught me how to sharpen an edge. Once he did, guess who sharpened his knife, axes, and shovels. It wasn't because he didn't know how. Even as an adult when I visited him, I knew to take my stones because I knew he'd hand me his knife to sharpen. He kept a good edge on his knife, but he'd still have me do it for the same reason he'd pay a shop to change the oil and filter in his car.

Personally, I won't let another person put a stone to the edge of any blade I own, whether free or for a price.

Since i don't know any people/friends who carry knives (sad isn't it :)), they don't know how to sharpen knives either.
I started sharpening knives with a stone and some of my older knives, but didn't had the patience to overcome the learning curve. If really necessary, i'm sure i would get a decent edge on a knife with a stone, but i'm taking the lazy route and just use a Sharpmaker, not as 'pure' or nostalgic, but works well enough for me...
