Perfect EDC knife found..... My 707 sequel just arrived...

Congrats TechDoc, I know youll love it.

By the way, did i just sell you on a 707? :D I feel benchmade owes me something for that one.
Its actually funny, i was planning on applying for a part time job at my local knife store while schools out for summer.... Maybe i DO know how to sell knives haha

Well Krissig12, you can take credit for the sale, but it also had something to do with finding a new one in the sale forum for $95 shipped! I love this as an alternative to the mini-grip.

$95 shipped! Damn, and i though I got a good deal....

But yeah, its a great alternative to the mini grip. To me the grip feels more "basic". The 707 is much more refined. The grip gets the job done, but the 707 does it in style
Now that i have the sequel, I gave my mini grip to my dad. His first benchmade and he loves it

I completely agree with your assessment and great writeup!

I think one of the reasons that knives like the Small Sebenza, Benchmade 940/943, and many Ken Onion Kershaws like the Leek are so popular is because of the carry profile, which not many knives have despite a pretty big user demand for these sorts of blades. For many people, a knife that is wide, thick, heavy, bulky, hard on pockets, has a blade which protrudes significantly from the handle when closed, etc. is not an ideal EDC for them, completely regardless of anything else. The 707's profile is really nice and a comfortable carry...and I personally like the blade grind even more than the Sebenza. And I agree that while compact, the 707 is not sacrificing it's capability. The 705 is awesome, and the 707 offers a blade which I think is even better than the 705.

I also think you are spot-on with your assessment of 154...it's a great all-around steel and it gives very good and balanced performance across the board not to mention is easy to sharpen. There's no area in which 154 is lacking or gives performance that is unsatisfactory.

I just purchased a M390 707 to put the blade on a limited edition 705 I have coming...it's the most excited I have gotten about knives in a very long time!

I've held one at the store but don't have one (yet). I think they are a nice alternative to the Mini-Griptilian.

But this is the one I really want:

Better hurry as they don't have many left! :) I just got one and was told there aren't a ton remaining, and I am guessing that like many of the PM2s, once they are all sold out their prices are going to skyrocket to ridiculous levels like the M390 PM2. I had the option to purchase a few of the limited 705's which I declined not to and I really regret it given now they are so expensive that I don't think I could carry it (and to me the 705/707 is a knife that belongs in the pocket.) I may purchase a second before the week ends but I am trying not to!

Yeah man, im with you. I like my blades sleek. The para 2's spydie hole makes it overly wide and uncomfortable to carry for me. I hardly ever carry it around the city anymore, because honestly, if i can have almost the same cutting capability in a HELL of a lot smaller package, i will choose the 707 every time. But bigger folders do have thier place. I carry the para 2 when i go on a day hike at the local canyon because i usually dont feel like taking a fixed blade (plus theres a lot of people in my area that would look at me funny or even call the cops if i did)
But yeah, i dont think ill ever part with the 707. Its my go to edc now and i usually wake up in the morning, grab it, and THEN go to my knife drawer to pick a knife for the day. Its like my third arm or something. I hardly even consider it separate. Its ALWAYS on me, and that means when i wanna carry something else, im carrying two knives that day, because im just not leaving the house without my 707. It is the true-est definition of an edc knife ive ever found.

I'm in the same boat as you with the Para...it is a fabulous knife, but the handle is just massive and the blade's height takes up space...both of which make the knife also look larger than it is. It's great for heavier work and it really helps reduce grip fatigue when using it for long periods, but it's profile is simply large. A clip I got from STR made carrying mine much more comfortable, but it is still too big for city/office carry. I'd love to see a 'Para Mini' at like 75% the size of the PM2 and a slimmer/shorter handle!

The weirdest thing of all, which I don't really get, though is the relative rarity of compact folders with form factors like the 707 or Sebenza. There is plenty of demand, but limited options. Larger/robust/thicker/heavier/overbuilt/etc. hard-use knives are great, but they do not fit the needs for someone looking for an EDC with characteristics of the 707 at all.

Ever consider grabbing one of the M390/blue/carbon fiber limited edition 707's? It's a sharp looking knife and in a color that is very rare for Benchmade to use (the shade is plain gorgeous.) And while I am not a big super steel fan, I must admit I've come to really like M390.

I really wish Benchmade would make more limited runs of the 707 (and the 705 when it was made.) The ones they have done are just beautiful works of art and hugely popular, and I really like how they have uniqueness for that top EDC, but they are so hard to find and secondary market prices go crazy high on them. :(

M390 is my favorite steel so yes i would have liked to grab one of the LE's. Unfortunately, even now they sell for well over 200 bucks, and thats directly from the place that had benchmade make them. Im sorry, but for a sub 3 inch knife, you should never have to pay that much. My 586 is a larger knife and has m390, aluminum, and g10, but cost me around 170. Am i supposed to believe that making the aluminum blue and adding a SLIVER of CF makes it cost over 200? I mean come on..... That aint right

Plus if you look at how much more m390 costs for the same blade, its really not that much. IMO, at most the normal one should cost 100 and the LE should be no more than 150. I think thats fair

I agree they are pretty pricy...although I shudder to think what they'll be once the initial stock sells out given how much LEs like them spike. M2 Benchmades I bought for $140 like 7 years ago are often selling for $600+ now. And I agree especially in bulk, I doubt M390 makes the price all that much higher, but anything LE just goes crazy on price. I'd love to get a Para 2 in 154/S90V but I just can't swallow the $500-$800 secondary market price tag.

I think i like this one even more though. I cant remember what it initially went for but it must have been a little cheaper. Still aluminum and CF, but with s30v. I like the colors scheme better as its more subdued and easier to look at for a lifetime of edcing. I have a feeling the blue would make it a little too "special" looking to carry all the time. But this one is awesome:thumbup:

I've been looking for that model for a long time...and really regret not buying it when it was newer as I love it. I agree there is something about silver and carbon fiber that is just lovely, and while low-profile, classy and hard to not see (I also like S30V a lot.)

If only I was rich...I wish we'd see more knives like that as it's such an attractive knife but with plenty of capability and a ton of practicality. ProTech does a lot of inlays using silver and black with CF, but most are autos.

Does anyone know the full model number of this model? It's beautiful!

707-701...it was made specifically for dealers not in North America and was limited to 500 pieces. I've been trying to find one for a while now
