I got to play around with a friends emerson persian .... I like it a lot ...minus the price .... are there any other folders with a similar blade profile thAt are more budget friendly ?

Not quite Persian but very close. I really like Persian too. Böker Kwaiken is really good looking at $134 for titanium.

Some great suggestions (the Talwars are awesome!). CRKT also has the Jernigan Persian folder for about $30-35 (a bit smaller knife than the others mentioned).

CS Talwar (great knife for the money), BM Bedlam, Spyderco Persian (there are two sizes), Spyderco Chinook (not exactly Persian inspired, but it fits the bill, out of production), CS Scimitar (out of production, still available at decent prices from time to time). Out of all these, and including the Emerson Persian, the Bedlam is my favourite.

I have the Jernigan Persian, and I quite like it. At around thirty dollars, it's extremely affordable. The small size makes it a great edc knife. The thumb stud isn't the most user friendly but, once open the lines of the knife flow beautifully.

I recently picked up a serrated Cold Steel Scimitar. I hope it was the VG-1 version, but knowing my luck it's probably AUS8.

Nonetheless it's a very nice knife.

Great pics of some options here...been drooling over the Emerson for a few weeks now. Maybe the large spyderco can fill the void!

If you just like long and pointy the CRKT Ontanashi Noh Ken (not a good spelling I am sure) might fit the bill.

I've got almost all of the Persians mentioned above and they're all very cool. Another great looking Persian with a reasonable price is the Boker Uolcos. I'm snapping one up as soon as they finally make it to a Canadian knife store.

The Jernigan didn't appeal to me when I first saw it, but the look has really grown on me. Could you elaborate on the thumb stud? Is it the size? The position? A combo of the two? Thanks.

It's a combination of issues. The stud is small and doesn't protrude far above the scales. There isn't really any clearance to give good access. Also, the stud is a bit rough. If you open it slowly, it's fine. If you want it to snap open, it takes a bit of practice. The pivot is very smooth though.

Ganzo G-712 it doesn't have the back spacer or glass breaker of the Benchmade Bedlam but the price is good if you want to know if this blade shape is for you. Around $20

Ganzo, while making near copies of Benchmade knives, sell them under their own name. They are more look alikes than exact copies. Quality is reasonable.

I have the Spyderco Persian2 and it is one of the hardest knives to open that I own.

What, no love for the Boker Plus Uocolus?
