Lots of introspection lately as the winter doldrums have clearly set in here at BFC and other fora I frequent. Reminds me of how ugly things get during the non-riding season on most of my motorcycling lists. Except the Laverda list, presumably because of all the Australians there....

Anyway, I was looking at how my taste in Busses has changed over the short time (about 20 months) I have been collecting these knives. For a while there, it seemed like I was dropping the big ones and only getting the little guys. Choosing the rather arbitrary designations of large (7"+), medium (>5" but <7"), and small (<5"), I looked at how my general distribution has shifted. At the end of 2005, it was 5, 5, and 8. Last fall, it was 4, 5, and 10. Counting the still pending Ruck and Frosted Jack, I am now evenly balanced with 7 of each category.

Over the past 14 months I made the following moves:

Added: FBMLE, NICK XXXL, NICK Fighter Variant, ZTSH Custom, Force 1, SJ-Variant, 2 SJLEs, ZTNO, PH, GWLE, BW, and PR Variant.

Dropped: ZTBM, HOFSHLE, BARF, EU-17, PBF, ZTNO, MrS, BW, BA3LE, LrMrS Custom, OD, and AS.

Swapped for replacements with Black Paper: AD, SJLE, GW

Still waiting for: RK-38, Frosted Jack

Anyone else find their tastes changing?

Rick

And what did you say your address is???

Going on a vacation this year?? Getting out of town for Easter??? ;) :D

Darn nice pieces of INFI!!! Whoooo!!

But yes I too have pass through the small to large to LE to............. I all just depends on my INFI slut mood!
But I do like to have a balance of a couple nice small, med and large Busses at any given moment in time.

WOW!
Cool illustration!
I'm an accumulator, not a collector. Hence, I am going in all directions like a headless chicken.

My first Busse was an SFNO in October 2004, and it has kind of set the trend for where I am now.

Big knives are cool (I love my Magnum EU-17), and my FBM looks cool and feels good in the hand, but here in Australia it is hard to find uses for knives this big.

With knives under 5” I’m more likely to grab one of my Chris Reeve, Fallkniven, or Dozier folders, so the little Busses don’t get to go out and play very often.

My SJTAC, Hell Razor, and SFNO get the most carry, and I think the BATACs I ordered will spend a lot of time on my belt.

It’s predominantly 5” to 7” Busses that I use on a regular basis.

My preferences are the 5" and bigger blades.
I'm also more an accumulator, as a collector

When I first took the plunge, I bought whatever I could get my hands on when I got cash flow... errr, I mean room on my credit card. Now I think I'm going to stay focused on Ergo era knives. I love the designs of those blades. Their just so simple and ugly that they're perfect...LOL BRING BACK THE ERGOS JERRY!!! :D

Like you, my tastes have changed slightly over time as well. In the beginning, I grabbed whatever I could get my mitts on. Over time, I would say that they have become more refined, ie. I begin to have a much better idea of what I like and what I don't care for. It's a lot easier to get a feeling of whether or not I am going to like something or not before I even have it in hand.

BTW, your pics make a good "test" for anyone really interested in Busse knives. Try to identify each one by sight and see how many you know. I must confess, I could not name them all. However, in my defense, I have been drinking.

I'm still in the early phases of the disease. Therefore, I pretty much grab whatever is within reach -- and will not spin Mrs. OP up into tornado form.

One exception: I got the GW form of the disease pretty bad. Now, not Tony G bad!!! But pretty bad, nonetheless. I could buy some real nice long-form INFI for all the dollars I've dropped on GWs. And 6 more coming in...

All that said, I can feel I'm shifting from the larger forms (FBM, etc.) to the shorter forms (GW, BATAC).

OH: if you ever get bored with that ZTSH custom or any NO...gimme a call!!

I have always liked the thicker stock blades such as the Ergos. I almost always prefer the drop points. But just recently I find that I am really comming to like the standard CG SJTs.

My tastes have tended toward the smaller blades, and with the recent GW releases my collection is now 60% <5".

I'm also an accumulator, and don't let the INFI out. :D That means available funds limit what I get. I always seem to have ~$200 free, but don't seem to be able to come up with ~$500+ very often. ;)

Very  pics of your collection's progress Rick! :)

Just a ridiculous suggestion, but you might like to turn those knives 180 degrees and create...a "Ring of INFI". Might be easier than getting all those points together!

Either way, an extremely impressive collection! What an inspiration...

I'm getting bored with collecting Busse knives. They're all always so sharp and rigid... I think that it's time to start collecing unique Busse EMPLOYEES... ;)

LOL

Actually, my preference is about to get me in trouble as I'm developing a taste for... Busse Custom Shop pieces. I'm still awaiting my green bone Ganzaaa Wardens... oh, and a black one too. Pietrzakp has added to my INFIddiction with this:

Tan, but not by too much. Yours?
It is... According to 'Skunk, 1 of 6 (I thought 26, but I defer to him!) so if six then... :D You, 'Skunk, rt014, me, and 2(?) missing? :D

Tan, but not by to much. Yours?

mine is tan/dk brown. im wondering if some oil would bring out the green?

not that it matters, the scales look fantastic as they are. but i just wonder where the green is.

Not Green... Green Linen. :) Here's another pic. I tweaked the green in the software process, like the guy from Alaska Gun did, just not so much.

This one's rt014's, posted on the "Calling Out All Jacks" thread... 'Skunk's is posted somewhere too.

I use a little water to damp the handle to get a feel for the color variance, water evaporates, but I believe that this way is better. :)

Moritom/Jaxx, FWIW, while your knives look the same, something tells me that they are different thicknesses. Check them out! ;)
