Pet peeves on knife review videos?

Best reviews for me, are long term , realistic use type . Living with the knife .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Showing and commenting on actual user experience that is appropriate for the knife . Cutting stuff .

2nd best , is putting the knife thru a consistent series of useful , artificial tests , tabletop or in the field .

Worst is box opening , fondle and fidget (and yap yap yap !). But cut nothing .:thumbsdown:

I'd rather watch Joe X type destruction , from which I might at least be entertained . Might even see how tough a knife really is ?

Never had anyone shoot a knife of mine though ! 🤪

Of course , all folders must be battened and spine whacked . ;)

What I'm hearing is, nobody complaining about lighting, sound, editing, or fancy camera shots???

Part of me thinks I should have a YouTube channel cutting, stabbing and slicing stuff.

I think the 7 people who might watch would like to see more knives.
I just haven't cause I worry about "production value"
Also, I'm probably my harshest critic so don't be surprised if I broke something....ha

*Id probably stab myself on camera, like an idiot.... showing off.
Then you all could hear my wife screaming.

"I told ya So"

I turn the video off if there isn't at least one car door getting stabbed in the first 5 minutes.
💪

But I have genuinely been disliking the trend of saying "Don't do X, Y, or Z with your knife. They aren't meant to be used for that" followed by "now watch me do it"

Stassa23 actually puts the knives thru testing (that the viewer can watch) and has no issue with doing a negative review when warranted. Discusses both the pluses and minuses of the knife in each review. Normal, regular, honest guy. (Plus he’s from Louisiana!)

Gotta give him credit for testing out the knives but one thing I'd like him to do is to lower his volume by -50%

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I don’t think enough reviewers show the top of the spine clearly. I like to have a good look at tip thickness etc.

I don't like when they keep constantly flicking the knife open and closed! If I'm watching a knife video, I just want to get a good look at the thing..hard to do when it is flying around and always outta focus! I did a few reviews of my own but my style was to show the knife in different positions on a turntable in 4K for the best views! Also, 2-3 minutes is the perfect video length! I don't need to listen to 30 minutes of someone complaining that the sharpening choil is too small or just repeating themselves to make the video longer...keep it short and sweet!

The ones that I don't like are when they won't list the brand name or model or even show the thumbnail picture of the knife sideways so that it is impossible to tell what it is.

Like most other folks are around here, I don't have time to click through stuff.

They don't deserve any support for making things more difficult to find out.

After being into knives for over 30 years now, I know what I like and dislike!

As for the ones I like the most:

LuvThemKnives and Stassa23 definitely do a great job pointing out features.

In preparation to do a scale swap on my brand new military 2 15v, I watched a video from a well known knife reviewer. He took apart the knife and tried hard to get the blade centered at the end, no luck! I’ll live with the g10 unless I can get Spyderco to install some Micarta for me. Sent them an email about that. This was not a “pet peeve”, but a heads up for me. Talking too fast and saying words that are not needed or ever pertain to the task at hand, now that’s a peeve for sure.

Sicilian to be more precise.

(Hence the garlic. It's an aphrodisiac for her...)

So many reviewers always give overwhelmingly positive reviews seemingly to get another free knife from the company they just reviewed. If someone’s always going to give a positive review, there’s no reason to watch them.
