A few more photos.

Here's the blade with a slight distal taper so the guard will need to be pressed on. It's also been touched with the disc sander to make sure it's nice and flat.

In this one the tang is marked and center punched for drilling the bolt and lanyard holes.

Drilled.

Here the shoulders that the guard will butt up against have been radiused to reduce the chance of stress risers.

Well, the 5" wheel arrived.

Here we have the blade with a line scribed down the center of the edge.

In this photo Phiilip used the flat grinder to remove steel down close to the scribed line.

Here he's started using the five inch wheel.

One edge done.

Here both edges on one side are finished with the 60 grit belt.

These last two photos show the blade finished to 240 grit.

In this photo Phillip has drawn lines which will help me keep his makers mark centered.

Here he has stamped it.

Phillip is not just forging the D2 blade, he is also forging the 440C guard for this knife.

Images of the guard being done.

The first one is of the 7/8" 440c rod prior to forging.

In this one the rod is forged into a rectangle 3/4" wide by 1/2" thick

Now a piece is cut off and ground clean and square.

The holes are drilled in preparation for filing the slot

The next two show the "webbing" between holes being removed with a round file, and what the slot looks like before it is squared.
