Photobucket bailed on most of us when it change its hosting fees not that long ago.

That was the 1st insult.

BUT now I see a few folks here using PB and rather than posting photos from there to BF, they just provide links. Going to a PB link (for me at least) is going to computer hell. There is so much garbage to click through before you can see the images. I even get "warnings" that my Mac is corrupted and I need to clean up before continuing. Well yeah - now that I've come here :( (NOT!)

That's insult # 2

RESOLVE Just so y'all know (if you care ) - I am NO LONGER leaving BF to look at PB hosted photos. Provide the photos in the thread or consider them invisible.

I have no such issues with IMGUR

RANT OVER. (I just share because I think PB users should be aware.)

Thanks for listening.

Agreed, puck photo bucket, have passed on buying things from people still using it and having to jump through hoops to see pics. Can't believe people would still pay to use as Imgur is better in every way imo.

I, too, don’t have patience if images aren’t present with text. Imagur is an exception, because it’s easy to use, even if you don’t have an account. I do use PB, but no one has to click or do anything to see my images. They’re just there in my post. If they weren’t, I would take a pass too.

Ever since the Photobucket BS, I simply attach my photos directly to the forum.

The only thing I don't like about attaching pics direct is that often times I am told my files are too large. Then I have to resize them:mad:

P.S. I'm not sure if this thread belongs in the GBU.

I haven't had many issues using tinypic.com . Although not good if the intent is to transfer super high res images as I believe they resize on upload. But good enough for most high res monitors. At least I can go back to older posts and still see my pics without the photobucket "no pic available".

This deserves a link to an old picture, not on photobucket. :D.

I was happy with Flickr - until I got an email today saying "We’re excited to announce that Flickr has agreed to be acquired by SmugMug....". I don't know if it will continue to be free and/or if all my old posts on BF will still work. Guess I will have to wait and see.

That right there is why I won't use a free host after the PB debacle (imgur's ToS also says "excessive" traffic to specific sites can be blocked at any time).

Well worth the gold membership to be able to host pics here, not to mention the other perks.

You can actually still hotlink with [unpaid] photobucket, just a bit of hoop jumping.

Exhibit

You just need to add ~original to the end of the link (after the .jpg). Note when you copy the already IMG tagged link from the PB app it includes both an image location and an html link, ONLY ADD the "~original" to the actual image location (the link in the copied string immediately surrounded by the IMG tags, should be the second of the two)

For example
http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/qq247/1badv8dime/knives/20170629_073638.jpg
Becomes
http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/qq247/1badv8dime/knives/20170629_073638.jpg~original

And you get the image above
Having said that, I just like to post that work around cause screw PB! Myself, well I switched to imgur...

Edit:wow it's hard to get links to behave like text when you don't want them to change to links!

Pics are really simple to load here, for me anyway. I take pictures, email them to myself as a medium attachment. Open email, save pictures. Now they are reduced in size so that you don’t get that; pics are too large error.

I’m sure there is a better way. I should include that all of this is done on my iPhone. Your mileage may vary with other manufacturers.

With my iPhone, I take a picture like normal. Then go to that picture and take a screen shot of the pic and crop off anything unwanted.

Now upload to the forum with no issue. The screen shot size is almost always small enough to not get an error. This is much faster than using an image hosting site or emailing and having to save the pic like above.

Same way I do it on an Android phone...super easy:thumbsup:.

Yep, I do the same thing. At one time I was trying to load them directly to BF from my phone but I would almost always get the error message stating the file was too large. Once I started emailing them to my yahoo acct. and then saving them to my laptop it was much easier to upload them to the forum.

Often times my laptop is not handy. I save them to my email on my phone, open it up and just save to photos. Bam, sized and ready to load on BF

I should clarify that my yahoo account is linked to my phone. I think that is standard or whatever email server you like to use. I know just about enough to be dangerous with these smart phones.

Super easy to upload photos as described above.

1. Take a pic.
2. Email it to yourself to reduce image size. (On my iPhone, I select Medium file size.)
3. Save the new image to your phone.
4. Select "Upload a File" (This is below the text box at the bottom of the page.)
5. Be sure to select the new photo just saved to your phone.

Walla!

This is easier than any of the other methods I've tried.

...and back to the original post - no BS or potential spam coming back to haunt you.

Post your own right here on BF - cut out PB.

I also ignore image links be they to PB, Google photos, Dropbox, or other.
Embedding is not that hard.
