Bad Photo BUCKET - what I want to say rhymes with bucket.

You can actually still hotlink with [unpaid] photobucket, just a bit of hoop jumping.

Exhibit

You just need to add ~original to the end of the link (after the .jpg). Note when you copy the already IMG tagged link from the PB app it includes both an image location and an html link, ONLY ADD the "~original" to the actual image location (the link in the copied string immediately surrounded by the IMG tags, should be the second of the two)

For example
http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/qq247/1badv8dime/knives/20170629_073638.jpg
Becomes
http://i452.photobucket.com/albums/qq247/1badv8dime/knives/20170629_073638.jpg~original

And you get the image above
Having said that, I just like to post that work around cause screw PB! Myself, well I switched to imgur...

Edit:wow it's hard to get links to behave like text when you don't want them to change to links!

Photobucket bailed on most of us when it change its hosting fees not that long ago.

That was the 1st insult.

BUT now I see a few folks here using PB and rather than posting photos from there to BF, they just provide links. Going to a PB link (for me at least) is going to computer hell. There is so much garbage to click through before you can see the images. I even get "warnings" that my Mac is corrupted and I need to clean up before continuing. Well yeah - now that I've come here :( (NOT!)

That's insult # 2

RESOLVE Just so y'all know (if you care ) - I am NO LONGER leaving BF to look at PB hosted photos. Provide the photos in the thread or consider them invisible.

I have no such issues with IMGUR

RANT OVER. (I just share because I think PB users should be aware.)

Thanks for listening.

Ray

I was the same! There was so much pop-up crap and margin ads that it kept crashing safari. Shortest site membership of my life. I don't think they give a damn about their customers any more.

Q: What's the difference between PB and a bucket of pus? A: The bucket.

I hate all the free services for a variety of reasons including that my work blocks most of them. I have loaded many photos to Amazon's photo storage that is included with my Prime but unfortunately all I can do is link to the image I can't share it directly within a post. To me this is the best option I have w/o paying another service and until I have a BF membership.

+1 on fixing broken Photobucket links by adding "~original" to the end of the image link inside the IMG tags. I've switched to Imgur for hosting, but this tip is helpful for fixing old posts where you want your photos to be visible again. (The OP is right, Photobucket's website is a freakin' nightmare, even worse than it used to be; my guess is they're trying to recover from folks bailing after the no-free-hosting debacle by slapping anyone still there with even more ads)

I have one of their paid accounts (not the $400 bastard) and it allows hot linking, the fee was worth it for not having to rework several K pics.

Which level of account, and were you a paid member before the crash?

I was paid user prior to their BS and they maintained the access my account had (including embedding) right up until the expiry of my membership on 24 April just gone. It's the something 200 ( @ $99).

I too refuse to open photo bucket links.

I have maintained my unpaid photbucket account in the hope that they eventually realise the error of their ways and restore the service at a reasonable, nominal charge (say $15 per year)

I have joined FOTKI as a paid member and I now use them for my uploads and imbedded links. They are excellent.

Photo bucket are responsible for destroying some fantastic historical threads many of which are irreplaceable and they should be ashamed of themselves.:poop::thumbsdown:

For historical threads, there are a number of "patches" I think they are called for Chrome and Firefox that can be downloaded that will bring all those old threads back to life for you mate, I have done it and as long as the thread's author has not gone and removed the once dead links, the pics show right up.

Thanks for that info. I'll look into it.:)

I, like Andy the Aussie Andy the Aussie did the same $99 deal. It works and when a glitch develops, CS has been prompt and effective. I do understand that PB has turned off many people. I only use PB on another Forum. Here, I just have to hit upload file from camera roll with no issues...Knock on wood.
