(Photo Journey) Does Becker actually make a single knife that can DO IT ALL? Maybe

Ok, I have been operating on a false premise that the BK12 was out of production and was only made in small numbers as prototypes..but there is a current edition that is for sale NOW! Holy Crap......I did NOT know I could just buy one! I'm all over this.

I feel like an idiot...I swear, I really need to pay more attention apparently!

maybe there were links in the DB or something :)

My votes are as follows: BK10, BK7.

Once again, a big knife w/choil does small things better than a small knife does big things. I'm just sayin. LOL :D

The 12 is amazing! I like my 7, don't get me wrong, but I carry it less than my 12, my 10, and even my 2. Just my 2 cents!

I'm loving my new 7. Can't wait for the Camillus one to arrive. Still deciding what to do with it. With two of them, I might get squirrely and do something interesting. Hmmm.....

I have something to to admit...I just looked at the size of the box and blurted out machax...Then re read the post...:o

I want the 12 also, problem is the wife. I'm on a no new knives lock down. Maybe I'll have it shipped to work:D

I carry my Seven around in busy provincial campgrounds openly and rarely get a second look. I do most of my wood processing with it too so I think neighboring campers just see it as a camp tool. I also wear it whenever I go fishing and though I have seen a couple fellow anglers glance down at it, they don't seem put off by it. That being said, it seems Canadians are more knife-friendly than you guys down south. Up here you can pretty much pack whatever you want as long as you display it openly and refer to it as a tool rather than a weapon for defense.

After I get my Eagle and my Silver and Ranger (second and third are Venturing awards, shoot me an email if you want more details on such), I think I'm gonna move to Canada, or at least South Carolina or South Dakota. Solely based on knife laws!

Back on topic: How does the 7 do as a chopper compared to the 2 (for those that don't have a 2, compare it to as comparable a knife as you have)?

I'll be moving to the Ka-Bar factory I'll just be like "yeah, I'm your new break room coffee machine"

New York has some rather boring knife laws, meaning they are actually restrictive. And while Florida has some nice loose laws, like your allowed to legally carry any folder (not federally restricted ones, like switch blades, balisongs, or gravity knives) or fixed blade open without any restrictions (unless your town or county has an ordinance against such things), you can only conceal a folder up to 4" without a concealed carry permit, meaning no wearing an 11/14 on a paracord shoulder harness, or around your neck under a jacket....

Bringing this thread back to life since the original post was directed at me and I have yet to reply. It is true that I have questioned whether or not a single knife can do it all. I personally don't think any one knife is the best at every task and that it is far better to have several knives on hand for different purposes. That being said maybe there is a best jack of all trades knife. I think the BK7 could be just that. However, there might be one that is better. I think I'll test this one and see if it is the one.

So, what is in this box? And BeckerRedNecker, how are you liking that BK7?

The bk7 porridge was just too hot. I think it may in fact be the best "Becker" survival knife.

It appears our family tradition of surprises will continue. When we meet up to camp and test out some gear tomorrow I may show you whose porridge is just right. What is in that dang box?

.... He is yet to reveal to me his choice. Perhaps it's another brand. Not even a KA-BAR? Unthinkable. I didn't break down this many cardboard boxes from small orders of paracord, sheaths (don't go there), scales and patches just to abandon the line for lack of an all-in-one model....

Remember when you said that? Is this now a case of foot meet mouth?

BK2. No question about it. With a nice, lean convex grind, you can finely slice apples, and yet you still can chop down a tree, or wreck a train, or field dress a Toyota. It can do anything and everything with ease, at least in my experience. Though I see you already have yourself a BK2, and you aren't satisfied with it as an all-rounder. I think now it's just between a BK10 or a BK5, though, I'm leaning more towards the 10.
